Depends on how flat your concrete subfloor is. Most of the time an old concrete floor is not perfectly flat and you need to add a levelling compound to fill in the low areas. As timber laminate floors are precision engineered then they don't have much tolerance for an uneven substrate, and they start to look gappy and uneven. No point in putting "not cheap" flooring on a substandard surface. A long, steel straight edge laid across the floor on its edge (not flat) should let you know how uneven your floor is. I would research your polished concrete options carefully. Old slabs that were meant to be hidden under tiles or carpet often have an uneven mix of aggregate towards the top, so when polished the results can look patchy. I have had two clients that were so unhappy with the patchiness of the aggregate mix and the micro cracks of their old slab after polishing that they tiled over the top, which is the most expensive way to finish a floor! Hello Louise yes I think this mix will look good. I would suggest limiting the proportion of Lighter timber though, and using a greater proportion of white (like in some of the images above and here below). I would also recommend that you don't stain (colour) your floors but just polish (clear lacquer) them. Before sanding and polishing you could also fill the small gaps and cracks between the boards with Calking and then sand this calking back (when dry) along with the timber to give a more flush uniform, modern finish to your floor. wow that looks hectic, no idea of another solution than what you are currently doing, just wow that looks like it is going to take you atleast a month. I would also suggest knee pads because damn. My other suggestion is get in a specialist to come and do it. It could save time and money.
