Kim, where do the rammed earth sections fit into the building, in relation to the Colorbond and rendered exterior walls? Can you post a pic of design? I envy you your use of rammed earth...our house was originally designed with a rammed earth section, but finding a builder happy to contract out that portion was an insurmountable problem, so we went with recycled brick instead.

I agree with black bamboo and oklouise -- everything looks 60's , but in a clean , updated way , with 2 exceptions and a comment ! The two that are out of character is the roof ( but its livable ) and the portico . Even the gardens look 60's inspired , and I like the overall effect . Thge comment -- it needs more colour , a bit of wow ! So the very first thing I'd do is the front door in the brightest fire engine red gloss I can , it both references the brick but it adds the wow in a small way . It will take some of the focus off the portico , but probably not enough for my taste . So I'd probably do it in Surfmist or similar -- OR a 50's apricot with a bright orange door if you are brave ! But the upstairs still lacks something -- too mehhhh . The grey in the windows I am guessing are roller blinds ? I'd change them for a mid red or orange , but that may not work with the interior colours ? So maybe wooden venetians -- brings in the natural element and touch of class , and still works well with most interiors . Especially if going wooden , I'd do downstairs windows the same -- if going for coloured roller blinds maybe not . It will look more uniform and thought out for $10-15k ( less if you do some or all yourself ) IMO .

I'm just trying to work out -- is this 1 house or 2 units ? Why I ask is that the right side has established gardens and the like , whereas the left is left fairly plain ? As Maye says , a timber garage and entry door plus maybe a palm or similar garden on the left side , similar to the right side would all help . Even though the place looks 80's , with the block wall rendered and painted , the cedar or similar garage door , a left side garden , and even basic upgrade like tinted glass screens on the terraces ( even that stick on film will last a couple of years , maybe $1000 installed , but personally I'd go actual tinted glass even if it was $4-5k . Generally I prefer houses that look their era , but theres actually enough that has modern elements that you could , if you wanted , spend $100k and make it look 2000's , and without knowing your area or values , you'd probably get that and more back if/whem you resell , and have something more modern looking in the meantime .
