Hi Barry, I personally don't think the large blank space lends itself to a piece of art. It's up too high and contrary to your thoughts, it wouldn't be the feature you'd hope for it to be. Besides, the money you spend on a piece large enough, would be better spent on a smaller, higher quality piece mounted at the correct height (eye-level) that would compliment another part of your home. Getting back to the blank space, have you considered using a timber veneer for the wall cabinets? Something that would work with your bench, and then you could use the same veneer as wall panels to continue above the blank space over the cupboards. Perhaps you could even incorporate led strip lighting to give it a little more wow factor. Timber is great because it adds a layer of warmth to the polished concrete and dark cabinets. Why thank you - I was quite surprised how well it turned out myself. I cleaned the surfaces, then wiped ESP product on all surfaces to be painted, waited 90mins, then 1st coat of oil based enamel white. I was impatient and did the second coat only about 4hours later. It took a Saturday morning and I was done :)

Your choice but gloss kitchens do definately date a kitchen as it's a highly specific fashion. My last rental property had high gloss cabinets and they showed every fingerprint on the cabinets which was a real pain. Each time I wiped the cabinet doors I then had to go back over them with a dry lint free cloth to make sure they dried without smears. Because they were two-pack and not laminate doors they also chipped on the edges and looked awful as it was a dark gloss and you could clearly see the substrate in every chip. The laminate kitchens I've used have all been much friendlier to a high traffic area prone to use and abuse of the cabinets. Since your floor is already high gloss I wouldn't compete with that on the cabinets as well. Better to let the floor be the star of that show. You are also planning on an engineered stone counter which will presumably be relatively glossy as well. Sometimes an effect is alluring because it's the focal point of the room. If the entire room were gloss surfaces then none of it gets to stand out and draw the eye.
