Hi sll113, I'm currently looking at this brand of flooring for our place. I'd be really grateful if you could provide an update on how your floor is holding up 3.5 years on.

Depending on your budget I’d paint the cabinetry, replacing the doors if you can afford to and just painting them if the budget is tight. Just a thought, maybe it’s possible to fill that detailing in the doors to make them appear flat once painted. Not sure if it’s possible. It’d be a shit of a job but then you’d have solid wooden doors. And new handles. The same with the tiles. Paint is a cheaper option. New tiles would give a better finish. Remove the window valance. Perhaps resurface the benchtop with a product like rustoleum. Replacing the oyster light with something more contemporary. Open shelving can look great and lighten a space but think about whether this compromises your storage capacity. Everything will be on show. I think if you paint the cabinets then the floor won’t look so bad as there will be separation between the similarly coloured floor and ceiling. Cork is great in kitchens as it’s soft so it’s easy on your legs and back and forgiving if you drop things. It’s also making a comeback, as are timber ceilings. I would choose soft flooring for a kitchen over hard flooring. Kitchen floor tiles are a pet hate of mine. In my next build we’re putting rubber or cork in the kitchen. You’d struggle to put a double oven next to the fridge as it’s a thoroughfare. You’d also lose your pantry. Is two side by side 60cm ovens a possibility where your oven currently is?

Hi, firstly congratulations on the new purchase. If you are on a tight budget then painting is certainly an option... you can do this yourself if you are feeling particularly DIY inclined or you can also have the doors and panels painted professionally in a polyurethane finish. Dulux does a great range of renovation paints that people tend to get some good results with. If you go the poly route bare in mind there will still be a significant investment required. Green cabinetry with timber accents would look great. Either a darker shade or you could look at sage perhaps, which is very popular at the moment. You could add some open shelving on the wall where the hanging scales are currently positioned. White is also an option as its timeless but everyone has a white kitchen. If you're going to renovate and this is your home for the foreseeable future dare to be bold and add some colour in your life :) Timber benchtops would be lovely but they are very expensive, especially at the moment. You could however add a timber top on the island as a butchers block type feature and update the back bench with either an engineered stone or a laminate. You could add in some brass or black handles and depending on how far you want to go update your tapware to match to finish the look. Good luck with the renovation!

Hi Jacqui, If you don't have the budget to change any of the tiles, there will be a limit to what impact you can achieve. I wouldn't for instance change the vanity top if you aren't changing the tiles. I would be hesitant to paint the timber vanity unless you want to have a lighter overall effect. The timber looks to be good quality hardwood so I would keep that. As you suggest, change the hardware and tapware. Make these the same metal so it is more cohesive than the current white and brass mix. As you suggest, a sage green would add to the fedration look in combination with the current tile colours. I'd just do white on the walls. If you really want a wall colour, I'd tint white towards the wall tile colour but lighter. The window treatments are a bit dated and as you already have frosted glass, do you need any treatments at all? If you feel you still need some privacy for the bath, why not look at white plantation shutters to the bottom half of the windows? If you are able to remove the mirror without too much damage, this is an opportunity to update the look. Either you could put two separate mirrors in front of each basin, or introduce lighting around the mirror or any number of options. I've attached a couple of ideas for you. Your door handles are another opportunity but only if you have changed them in the rest of the house. Good luck. Christine.
