Brand new house — awkward living area space

It's a shame to use it as a TV area though, since that means blocking off the sliding doors with furniture. I'm guessing at the moment you don't need as a little kids play area or teenagers homework area - but how about a home office, or even gym/workout area? (There's a great article on Houzz today about making smart home gym spaces: [https://www.houzz.com.au/magazine/step-up-your-workout-zone-with-10-simple-additions-stsetivw-vs~39722244[(https://www.houzz.com.au/magazine/step-up-your-workout-zone-with-10-simple-additions-stsetivw-vs~39722244).) Or, given, the sliding doors and tiles, how about a conservatory? An indoor herb garden, with some orchids, ferns and maybe even a small palm? Do you have a craft or hobby that could use a dedicated area? I'm thinking artistic types would love to turn the space into a mini studio - or I could let the person with whom I share my life play with his car parts there . . . (tiles! easy to clean up!) Of course, whichever option you choose for the space, I'd keep the cat climbing frame and snuggle-pod!...See MoreMaster bedroom colour ideas-room faces west (slightly south) in Qld

This is where photos don't always do justice to decorating, you can see a room that looks amazing but it doesn't always transfer to another room, resulting in disappointment. I love dark colours in dining rooms too, I think they create a lovely intimate atmosphere for dining. I've done the dark colours in bedrooms too for that intimate feeling, but I've now moved on to lighter colours to open the house up more and I really enjoy the freshness of them, the rooms seem to look a lot cleaner. My soft aqua lounge room was created from years of living with the sun and the heat it generated in the room, often making it unbearable to be in. Since I've done it in the aqua, people walk into the house and just want to be in the room and don't want to leave, because it is both cool and restful....See MoreWest facing Patio and deck
Comments (16)Hi friendly Kim. I've just looked at your profile to see if I could find your photos. I noticed you have them on a new post. I now understand, you already have a full alfresco area under the main roof, and vertical sun blinds, and also have noticed your fan, as you mentioned. The roof extractor fan may help remove the heat. I was also thinking if you had some tall lush plants along the side where the pull down blinds are. This would stop the sun, but allow the air through. But, sometimes we just have to move inside. This is why solar passive orientation of our new homes is so important. Hope you find a solution....See MoreHelp! How do I bring natural into my south-facing home?
Comments (8)And looking again, the rather narrow family room may be a bit hard to furnish, with doors on two sides and missing wall. It seems small compared to dining room and the internal playroom area. It’s the best spot in the house, north facing with views to your garden so you don’t want it to end up as a virtual corridor. Corners are the prime real estate. At the moment they are bedroom 1, bedroom 5, garage and alfresco. Three of those aren’t areas that need an outlook. I’d love to see your sitting area in a corner room with windows on two sides and views of your soon to be delightful garden! Perhaps alfresco where bed five is . Lounge where alfresco is, with double doors to close it off if needed, and maybe bed five where lounge is. I can’t see the plan as I write on my phone so I may be missing something major! Best of luck....See Moreafjp
