Need help with my outdoor space
Comments (6)The small round garden bed within the gravel is the perfect spot for a deciduous tree. You will then get winter sunlight into your home and the tree will block the summer sun. If the area is fairly long, consider 3 trees in a line along the length of the house. In this instance I would choose the same tree throughout. I don't know where you are or what your soil is - this will have a bearing on the choice of tree. But I am a sustainable landscape designer and I use trees all the time for insulating the home the sustainable way. Its remarkable how effective trees are for this. The tree/s can be planted into the gravel, using the gravel as a mulch. Choose a variety with a trunk and a widish crown so that you can walk under the canopy as it gets older. Its a great look....See MoreWhat colour outdoor set shall I buy to furnish this narrow deck space?
Comments (15)For me...I'd keep the deck the colour it is, may give it a refresh if necessary and go hunting for outside bentwood firniture, you know that curly bamboo kind, it never dates and is elegant and above all comfortable...where many outdoor settings may look good but are not inviting. If the space were mine...and if it had shelter from the elements, or if you didn't mind some of those outdoor firniture protector covers for inclement weather ( when you may as well bring the furniture in...whatever it is..) .I'd also condsider going on the hunt for some lovely old colonial-looking wicker items painted brilliant white, it always makes a statement, always looks classy and is always gentle on the posterior! If you can find the genuine article often you will discover that the seats are made of entwined dried grasses and palm leaves. I'd also go looking at some of those plant/cafe' places...that sell plants, fountains, as well as up-market snacks and are often furnished with wicker...no harm in asking where they bought it...they may even sell it. Its a cosy little space...I'd just have come large comfy outdoor chairs and maybe little side tables. Think of fancy English ladies sitting out of doors watching a cricket match on the manor lawn and sipping drinks...that's the scenario I see there. Maybe even one of thos old tall plant stands with a large green specimen plant....Most of all....have fun....See MoreHelp! Indoor/outdoor area currently waste of space
Comments (31)re the floor, what about garage matting tiles, as in photo attached, but lay them in a groovier pattern, perhaps a chevron or 60's pattern, if leaning towards MCM. It may not be any dearer than the cost after getting a tiler in, if laying tiles? Also, you can take them out to clean them if need to and change the look whenever you feel the need!...See Moreideas for Indoor/outdoor space
Comments (10)my suggestion would be a solid brick wall with full width lowlight double glazed sound proof sliding windows (about 750 of the floor and only about 600 mm tall so that you can look at your gorgeous palms from a seated position without seeing above the fence, also add matching sliding glass doors to completely enclose the space and paint the new wall a dark colour so the focus is on the view....and, if you don't already have some roof ventilation a ceiling fan and roof vent will make the space more comfortable when you need to keep it all closed up for privacy and the side fence needs to be tightened up to cover the gaps and also paint the whole fence in the darkest colour to highlight the palms...sound is like air and water and can squeeze through the smallest gaps so all this effort and expense will be a great investment in your peace and privacy...See MoreLila
