Kitchen headache — advice?
Comments (40)I am not sure about the idea that your kitchen needs to look like it is in a display home at all times with nothing to indicate that you use it regularly. I love cooking and still manage to put used dishes straight into the dishwasher and keep the benches relatively clear. Any open plan kitchen layout will have the same issue ie you will still see dishes on the sink no matter where you place it in the kitchen. Stay focussed on the function, walking from one side of the kitchen between the sink and cooktop is not efficient nor safe. Next time you are preparing a meal imagine you are doing it in your new kitchen layout as this will test whether it functions properly for you. Definitely keep your larder/pantry you won't regret it. More than 3-4 stools at the island can be over rated, most people prefer to sit around a table as a family rather than line up at the bench looking at the sink and stove. It sounds like you have always been on the right track, just try not to over think it....See MorePOLL: If you work from home, what's your biggest pet peeve?
Comments (3)Clever planning of the location and taking into consideration the overall usage of the house by others can resolve all these issues. I have worked from home for many years. I have worked out how to do it :)...See MoreNeed help furnishing family/dining
Comments (10)You need to be careful of obstructing your walkways, if the buffet is not too high maybe you could position your buffet against either the 4.51m wall or 3.19m wall and mount your TV above the buffet - it would double up as a TV unit and then you can position your lounge/s in front of it like you have in your options. Is the fridge too large to fit into the fridge space in the kitchen? Depending on the size/position of your sofas and your powerpoint positions the fridge could perhaps sit in the corner of the 1.51m wall and be camouflaged with a large pot plant next to it to hide it a little from view (I know this positions the fridge a fair way from the kitchen but maybe you could get a cheap smaller fridge to fit into the kitchen cavity so essentials are close at hand). A round dining table in the corner to the right of the entry would visually look less cluttered plus give you a bit more space to walk around it, a 1.1m or 1.2m diameter round table should adequately seat 6....See MorePOLL: How much do your interiors influence your mood?
Comments (26)I live with a beautiful sea view which I love, but which presents its own set of challenges. When we moved in the interior was painted grey but on an overcast day, all I see out the window is grey - grey sky, grey sea and when I turned around there were grey walls as well. It was quite oppressive. We’ve repainted a lovely soft white which isn’t too dazzling on a bright day, but definitely lifts the gloom on a dull day. I’ve added punches of bright colour here and there and now I love my space (and my view in all weathers)...See MoreLaurie Tillett
