help with staircase

Any help how to modernise this stair banister and railing.
Walls will be repainted deluxe natural white and architraves in deluxe white on white.
Should I add a contrast colour e.g dark charcoal or should I install a new banister? Are they expensive?

I would leave it all Natural White, including the skirts and architraves. It’s a bit unusual to have two different colours on the walls/skirts.

no leave it all white and leave the rail. Just look for some artworks, a photo or mirror to hang on the wall, and maybe a pot plant in the corner in front of the stairs

Sorry were you wanting the risers to stay white?? Can I suggest a rethink? My chippy son just did the same on a reno at the client's insistence. Toe kicking's right - in the space of the half hour first open for inspection EVERY single step horribly marked. Had to get down with a scourer and scrub every step. Imagine having to do that!! He's suggesting retouching with polyurethane as dohraime suggested

Thanks for reply. Will it look weird to have a staircase with balustrades on both sides, even though all balustrades are matched the same? It looks like a free-standing staircase in the living room.

This keeping the stairs as planned, including a separate toilet upstairs which I need to draw up Because your ceilings are so high this will allow for a section of wall 2100 - 2400 height which hides a sink cleanup within the kitchen family which will be full of light., plus a storage area. I am working on showing you what this would look like in 3D if I can With all the light coming in through all the windows you won't need the extra void anyway, great spot for the Toilet perhaps

Def white to match skirts. The only thing annoys me is the upright on the wall doesn’t go to ground. You could put a chunkier handrail on if you like.
