Hi chittering5 we used the 25.5cm lights. Our island bench is fairly small at approx 1800x900mm. I actually purchased 3 (at much better price than currently listed) but felt it was too many for the space when I mocked up the (widest) diameter of the lights with paper cut-outs. Trying to decide if I can use the 3rd light in the bathroom or something without it looking lonely....

Like the previous comments it depends on use and the design of the light fitting itself. Also if the light has a narrow beam it may need to sit higher to throw a wider beam to light up the area you need lit up. Generally you would put it above eye level so that it doesn't obscure your view when standing. More often than not it is just a matter of where you think it looks best, most pendant lights have good adjustment so before its installed have the electrician hold it up for you at different heights and see what looks best.

I agree that the existing pendants are very generic, inoffensive and safe. If the budget doesn't stretch to replacing five pendants then get an electrician to shorten the cables so that they are above your head height. You may also like to explore some other bulbs. It looks like the bulbs over the dining table may be a warm white, whereas the kitchen is a cool white. Once you have found the perfect bulb for colour and brightness/intensity then match all five pendants with the same bulb. Hi Sarah, I would go with a large rug in the lounge- if you can get all four feet of the couch on it as well as the tv cabinet it will create a clear ‘lounge room’ zone. This will be a costly rug due to the size. You can choose a piece of carpet that you like and have it cut and edged to create a customised rug if your own. Adding a large pendant over the dining table will mark this as another separate zone. I am personally not a fan of pendant lights over the island, I just think they add clutter to the space and have been overused - I’m sure many will disagree. You can have another row of down lights over the island if you need task lighting there and add led lighting under your overheads at the back as an accent light that will create a soft wash of light down the splash back. Finally ( even though you didn’t ask!) the white powerpoint to the front of your island stands out agains the black and works against it, swapping this for a black outlet will help make it disappear.
