the square shape in the whole i would call a box! and should be easy to construct out of suitable sized timber for the available space .. the plasterboard walls will have to be square set to make sure there are no rough gaps that are usually covered by standard architrave around openings
I’m not sure it has a defined name. If I was describing it to a builder I’d ask for a wood lined open niche, wood lined pass through, or wood line open display shelf. And as above they’d need to take care with the plaster finish. But a picture is worth more than a 1000 words when talking to tradies- show them the pic.
I think you may be after Scandinavian Minimalism. Be sure as simple as it looks, when done correctly, it is much more detailed and complex than traditional " cut and past skirtings and cornices ". To achieve a really clean square / box like look, there are usually small shadow line recesses around most elements, like doors and windows. This allows the elements to stand out even more and read as a cleaner detail. The reader then sees a clean, straight line between the wall and the element. Notice the very faint shadow line between the stair sidewall and the timber tread. That takes a lot of skill to produce. If you need any further advice, please feel free to call us at Gap Design. Cheers.
