Hi there Mel, with all the males in your house you can't hide the TV, we had a similar problem with positioning lounges and didn't want to replace our furniture. Our living, dining kitchen etc all have water views via big windows and sliding doors which really gives you great views while reducing wall space. We placed our sectional with enough space to walk behind it (we have full length timber venetians) in front of the 1st lounge window facing into the room. TV is on the end brick wall, we then have a couple of separate chairs opposite that can be moved if needed. I would agree that the best position for your sectional lounge could be with the back of the lounge towards the kitchen with the other section running along the wall. Keeping in mind the Males in your family (1) mount the TV in the same space on the small flat wall so that it can pivot, just thinking that the pool is right there, the boys could then have access to watching TV from the pool. (2) Put a low bench with storage in front of the window opposite the pool with the TV on this (they could still have access to watch from the pool.) not sure what window treatment you have in mind, you mentioned louvers which are great for air flow. Possible other is white internal shutters. A sofa table behind the lounge would add useful interest to the rear of the sofa. I agree with Domu & House Matters ideas. We have a zip built into our ceasar stone bench top next to our sink. We opted for the font (the mesh waste) and riser (it attaches to the bottom of the zip to give it extra height) We have instant boiling water (you can only use it when you press the safety switch located under the boiling water switch) chilled filted water and sparkling water. The sparkling water is sensational. We worked out the ratio and it is of equal value (replacing the canister as to buying X amount of bottles of mineral water over the same period) and we drink a lot of it (we are a family of 5) The unit itself sits under the sink and is smaller than a case of beer, and next to it is a C02 canister (resembling a small tube) We now don't have any empty water bottles in our fridge or cupboards, we no longer have a shelf full of mineral water (the filter water is so pure and clean) and I don't have a kettle on display day and night!! Yes the initial outlay is expensive but it looks fantastic is easy to use and I would highly recommend it.

I love what you have done with your renovation. I am very partial to large open plan living spaces. My only suggestion to this room would be to have 3 couches instead of one couch and a single chair. Situate one facing the tv and two on either side facing each other. This will define your space, encourage guests or family to talk and give a cosier feel to that area. The down side to large open spaces as mentioned by others are cooking smells, noise, heating and cooling costs. If the homes large windows are north facing with large eaves or shading for summer, the walls, floors and ceiling are well insulated and you have a well sealed home.This will dramatically improve the feel and comfort of this lovely home with out having high energy costs.
