Hi 18. The apartments were completed just 5 years ago and good quality carpet is like new. It's weird to have just a sliver of kitchen tile to define the space as it's very restrictive. The dining area should be next to kitchen, so that's another challenge, as is the bathroom that's not really private. I've lived in the building since it was new and love all the facilities, and this is one of the better floorplans. I love the sofas and wonder whether just one would work better. It's 5 weeks till I move and now have offers of help. Whew!

I have used the Ikea Utrusta push opener on 240cm x 50cm pax doors and it effectively opens the door 5cm which is enough to then easily open the rest of the way by hand. The only issue is that in order for them to work well in terms of ease of use with a double door pax wardrobe, you really need a shelf mid height installed in order to mount the Utrusta so that they are located behind the doors as close to where a door handle would normally be. I did try mounting them on the top but then you need to push the door towards the top and reaching to do that is no fun. I guess the other option if you needed a full length double wardrobe would be to mount them to base but then you would need to kick the door to open... I was advised against it by ikea staff on the basis that they were designed for the metod doors but I have had them in for a month now and am happy with the result and would recommend it if you want a handless design with the caveat that you will need to have a shelf mid height in a double wardrobe system so you have something to mount them to where the doors meet in the middle at handle height.

I would suggest keeping the brick fire place with a clean up to keep the character. Agree paint the ceiling panels white however keep the beams as the are (if in good condition) to keep the character of the home. Paint the remaining walls white or light grey. The 1/2 brick white wall and timber paneling on the right side does need to come out to help you create the open plan space you are craving. The kitchen area - I'm not sure of size judging by the photo - I would suggest storage/cabinets the full length of the back wall to the windows where the dinning table is and cabinets/draws under the window also. Giving you plenty of storage for the home. I would suggest an island bench with a lower section to use as a dinning table. All your storage is in one place and allowing you to remove the storage you have across the bottom window in the lounge room. giving you more space and more light in the room. Or paint them white also. If you can remove the window coverings and replace with lighter roller blinds that disappear in the white walls or even white block out curtains.
