Hi Kerry_g, they are two great spaces to fill :) You have a great combination of colour already in your rooms, so the question is do you want something dynamic that stands out or more subtle as to not overpower the room? Something like the Inks on Paper works that I create may be of interest to you as they can have both effects on a room, depending on how they are styled. If you like an artist's works and are concerned on whether the art you choose will look suitable in reality, speak with the artist about their returns policy. Most quality artists will have a reasonable returns policy in place, as this gives their customers peace of mind. Bluethumb (disclosure here - I have some of my art there) also has a 7 day free returns policy, and they have a great range of styles and sizes. What a strange little recess! I would disguise it altogether or make a feature out of it. Maybe paint it a feature color and put a tall house plant or a retro macrame hanging plant to obscure the angles. Or put one of those hanging chairs there? Or line it with mirror to make it appear to lead through to another area. Shelves with mirror backing always look great. Another thing you could do is place a ceiling to floor wall hanging there to conceal it and use the space behind to store the vacuum cleaner and other junk. Thanks for that link Lee. Not sure how I will go getting tile out - I was rather hoping for some kind of 'elbow' profile that I could silicone over the top and create a neat frame. I would if I could grind a channel where the tiles meet and retro-fit that metal trim? 'Me me' and 'Gallifrey' have metal edge too - I did not know that was an option. I certainly would have suggested that. Note to oneself - research before you get in a mess - not afterwards!

Your floor and other wall colours are great but Red (orange), black and white are very harsh together, the wall cabinets either side of the range hood have been badly installed, they should have been built to the ceiling. My suggestion is because the kitchen is small, I would remove the cabinets either side of the range hood and then run a row of white cabinets across above the sink to the end of the bench top. Paint the walls white or a soft grey, the range then becomes a stand alone feature. You didn't mention what the splash back material is but I would consider a clear mirror splash back along behind the sink and up to the base of the new white cabinets so that you're not just looking at a wall. cheers
