Hi Macymacmaples, I would go for a 120cm to be sure that you are not splashing water everywhere. The latest trend is these single panel showers but they do come with their own challenges that need to be addressed by a professional. A shower tray with proper drainage is a great way to start. The most common errors we see in renovations with such showers is that the drainage has not been thought through - so the water runs everywhere. This makes keeping a clean bathroom impossible. If you want to ensure that water splashing/running is not an issue, I always recommend a properly water-tight shower box. But the decision depends on practicality VS aesthetics and the advice of your builder.

Jeff Leake - they are used for different purposes, one is to seal awkward gaps and the other is a overall put it on and leave. Silicone is messier and more expensive and to use it the way you suggested would most likely take four times as long to place not including clean up. This in turn bumps the bill up four times. This along with other reasons i.e discolouration, cleaning, longevity, ease of use the cost of silicon vs grout, masking tape is why tilers don't do it this way. The more time they spend on one job means the less jobs they can do in a week which loses profits. Add on to this with the more costs involved upfront for a tiler versus what the client pays (sometimes clients hold out on payment) means they go into debt and cant pay there suppliers and workers. They also know if it can be best used somewhere else with a better result. They always take time if something can cut down on time and money and can outlast another product in durability. 7 year warranty on builds means the less time they have to go back and fix something the more they save. Believe me they are always looking for something that cuts down on costs and time. They are also approached by different companies willing to give out freebies or competitive prices to try there product too and encouraged to endorse and switch other tradies to them also. Are your floors a concrete slab or timber ? My previous home had a similar problem, but was on a concrete slab, And we had wall damage in the hall. A company like Megasealed will come and fix this in a day. They will remove the existing tiles, re water proof, and relay tiles. And also regrout the entire shower recess. If the paint in the hall is not bubbling, then you may be correct that the damage is in the floor, not the walls. And since you have not used the shower recess for a time, then it is the ideal time to get a professional in to redo the shower base. With reference to removing the hob, this may be making the job an expensive full renovation. As the hob would be built up from the floor, the tiles would not be underneath, therefore you would be having to take up that hob to the concrete/timber base, then the domino reaction may take into effect. New floor tiles, new levelling of floor etc etc.
