I have installed pebble tiles in several showersPros - very elegant, gives a sense of space as pebbles are different so no long defining linesCons - difficult to clean, must determine at outset if you want the stones deep in grout (you see lots more grout but the surface is smoother) or not so deep (you see less grout, but the surface is bumpier).Some people recommend epoxy grout, I don't for the simple reason it is much harder to get the grouting even with pebbles than tiles so more time needs to be taken.

Yes, I do understand about the water marks, that was the problem I had with my old matt tiles but my new high gloss tiles don't show it strangely enough. They do have a slight pattern in them that might help. The visual aspect does concern me too, especially with them being plain white and if the bathroom is not that large. With minimal grouting, could they end up looking a bit "plastic", like you lose the effect of them being tiles, if you know what I mean. I recently renovated my kitchen, and planned on having all white doors and drawer fronts, but my pantry cupboard had two sizeable panels that would look like wall and I felt by having them white, it would give the kitchen a "plastic" look and cheapen it. I ended up doing the doors and drawers in the same yellow as the walls, and am really pleased I did now as it is hard to tell what is wall and what is the side of the pantry and the other cupboards and drawers blend into the walls and make the kitchen look larger. I know that is not a good comparison, but white is not always an easy colour in some surfaces. Looking at my 600 x 300 wall tiles, I really think I would stay with that size, there really isn't that much grout in that size anyway and I just think they will look classier.

I'm sure there are plenty of people that have somehow slipped but I suspect it would more likely be if someone was walking in the bathroom with socks on but whatever the reason, it has been considered for years that high gloss tiles are dangerous in what is called a wet area but I can't disagree with you that a mat is all that is needed to stop from slipping with wet feet but of course people have slipped in the bathtub too because it's so slippery so the jury might still be out as to how to make a bathroom totally safe. I think it's just a suggestion based on some kind of trials and my theory is more hand rails where possible.

I'm merely seconding a lot of opinions above. So, I would paint the cabinet, the window frame and also the inner side of the door a dark shade of aqua/blue like Resene Astral, Bismark or Blumine. Paint the walls a dove white. Paint the mirror in antique silver and lower it, remove that strip of gold tile above the white and try something else to match the walls or tiles. The taps are lovely, so leave as is and try to match the cabinet handles in a similar style. I'm sorry to say this, but after changing some of the other stuff, the floor needs to be changed to a lighter shade of tile. It's too dark. Good luck. Hope we get to see the finished bathroom.
