Painting Gutters, Fascia and Carport

Kan Weera
last year

Hello everyone,

I am planning to paint my gutters, fascia, and carport.

1. I have noticed that there is some oxidation on the surface of the gutter and fascia ( I think it is an oxide ) , and I'm concerned that it might still show after painting. What is the best way to remove this oxidation and smooth the surface? Should I sand it? If so, what type of sander would be best for the job, such as an orbital sander, belt sander, or detail sander? You can find examples of these sanders at https://www.bunnings.com.au/products/tools/power-tools/sanders. Alternatively, would you recommend sanding it off by hand?

2. The carport has some rust. What is the best way to prepare the surface? Should I use this product: https://www.bunnings.com.au/bondall-250ml-ranex-rustbuster-rust-converter_p1560855, and then sand it to remove the paint? Can you suggest a sander for this task as well? I prefer to purchase a single sander to keep my costs low.

3. For the carport, I am planning to use a primer such as https://www.bunnings.com.au/dulux-1step-prep-primer-sealer-undercoat-500ml_p1370231, and then paint it with Dulux Weathershield. I will only be removing the paint from rusty areas. Would this be sufficient?

4. The existing paint color appears to be too yellowish, and I am considering using "Colorbond Surfmist" for a brighter look. I also plan to paint the window trims with the same color later. Additionally, the color of my downpipes blends well with the bricks, which makes me wonder if it is a common color used in houses built 30 years ago. What color do you think it is, and would you recommend using the same color for my downpipes?

I apologise it this is too many questions in one post.
