Does Polytec Evolution Range cost more than laminex?

Have a kitchen quote that we are trying to bring down in costs. The original quote was for doors made from Polytec Evolution. If we change to Laminex doors, would that be cheaper?

Generally similar in price. The base Matt laminate maybe a bit cheaper but it will depend on what current deals your kitchen supplier has and so they’re the best person to ask. There are articles talking about the two if you Google them.

Laminex and Polytec have the same products, just different brand name and colours. They are both laminate products. If you need to reduce the cost, then step back to Polytec standard not Polytec evolution. Both brands have a similar range, so get a quote for the equivalent product Polytec evolution in the Laminex brand.

Actually, @annb1997, think we will go with white mosaic tiles!! The more we thought about it and the more opinions I sought the more it seemed sensible to run the splashback up to the shelf height ie the range hood height. That then became prohibitive for stone, glass or stainless - the tiles are a quarter of the price of taking stone to 300 mm, so 600 mm would have meant crazy $$. Also, we had issues with the thickness of the stone - initially we were told it had to be 20 mm thick, which was impossible with our 14 mm window architraves, but were then advised the stone could be ground back to 12 mm - but then you're paying for something you're not using and paying again to remove it!! Will post a photo with the mosaics in place. What a journey this has been! Moral of the story: quiz your architect about potential issues when asking for a U-shaped corner kitchen ...

Hi Susan , thanks for your reply and update . It sounds amazing !!! I too have ditched all marbel whatsoever in our home. In the end I chose all black cabinetry ( polytechnic black Wenge) it was slightly warmer and has a grain. My bench tops are all Caesar stone osprey , including the kitchen island , scullery and benchtops. I have a large window splash back that runs along the oven etc . but also quite a lot of walls which I have tiled in an offshore herringbone .The colour of all painted walls throughout solver white delight . We have concrete slate tiling and the white warms this space. It sounds as though we have headed in a similar direction ! We are at the stage of build where the cabinets are getting installed / I'll take a pic and send - I'd love to see yours also ! Smartstone Calacutta Blanco definitely has the tones that you are after, and also the scale of the veining is more similar than the other suggestions. I would check it out as your first point of call. Be sure to view a physical sample as the screen representations are often a long way off the mark. Also you could try Stone Ambassador 'Calacatta Kapak'. I would avoid natural marble if you can, just because it is high maintenance. Good luck :)

Before choosing any surface, do the finger test, unless you are house clean slave. The finger test is see what marks show with a slightly greasy(hand lotion) fingers. Most blacks show finger marks big time. Same with counter tops. Best test is scatter with bread crumbs, if that disturbs you forget it, otherwise you will be kitchen cleaning all day. The same goes for concealed handles, they quickly get full of crusted much and chip easy. A working kitchen needs to be practical, easy to clean and totally family proof.

Hello Hu......,

The Polytec Evolution range is what they call their Polytec Factory made to order doors range. The "Range" includes their basic Laminates in different finishes but also includes those materials from their Gloss Createc material, & from their Venette finger resistant Matte board, and from their Ultraglaze Acrylic board range (not laminate material). All these material types are different & so also have different price points so it depends which of these materials you are looking to use compared to Laminex Industries Factory made door range of different "material types". As a general rule regarding price, we have found Polytec to be more more competitive, and not only in their pricing but also with range, quality, back-up, sales support and supply across all their products.
