kitchen reno pantry placement

Hi everyone, we’re in the process of designing our kitchen remodel. I’ve attached a photo of the current kitchen plus one with a red section where I was considering having a wall of pantry, which I was thinking could either be plain laminate or perhaps shaker style, as per photo 3. I’m just somewhat concerned that when looking into the kitchen from outside the kitchen that it might look very plain with the wall of pantry, rather than what is usually the placement for oven/ hotplate, etc. Has anyone had a wall of pantry in this space and could send me a photo to reassure me? I think it will look good. You can add interest with pendant lights, stone bench etc. But for full information prior to suggestions, can you sketch the rest of the proposed kitchen layout. That will give the full info for comments on your proposed cupboards. And can you add photo 3….

Many thanks, Dreamer. Yes, will be stone benchtops and pendant lights. Just about to go out to decide white or very light latte cupboards and opposite colour in stone benchtops. Here are the lights

That looks fantastic. Thank you. Thank you. I had considered the access via the garage to the house via the laundry or through the workshop/bedroom. It came up as an idea from a prospective buyer when I had the house on the market a couple of years ago as he had 4 children. I changed my mind about selling in the end and figured while I was doing the kitchen I would have a chippie put up the wall and door at the same time. Don't need another bedroom myself but it could be a "man-cave" or study instead of the current use as storage area for "stuff" and maybe an advantage later for any new buyer. The pantry on the other side looks interesting but would mean losing the larger island wouldn't it? Food for thought. I am glad you think the existing cabinetry could be re-used as that was my plan. How much should I allocate for a reno as a general rule? A

Need advise on fridge placement whether in pantry or kitchen

What are the two fridges for? Who needs access to them? That will dictate what works best for you. The first thing I thought of was the same as Larkspur Lane Design. It can be useful to have one fridge outside the butlers pantry which is easily accessible for grabbing a quick drink or a snack. If placed at the outer edge of the kitchen other members of the household can easily help themselves without getting in the way of whoever is working in the kitchen. But you said "the question is about the main fridge as im happy for second to go inside butler". 'Main fridge' indicates that is where the main supplies for meal preparation are kept, so wouldn't that fridge go in the butlers pantry, and if not then what is the butlers pantry for? 'Second fridge' is unusual and while we can say what we might do if we had a second fridge, to give you advice we need to understand how two fridges are intended to work for your household. So the question comes back to what are your two fridges for and who needs access to them? That will dictate what works best for you. Editing to add, I see bigreader is getting at the same thing. "Think about the way you live." What works for one home doesn't necessarily work for another home. It's what works for you. If you can help us understand how you want your kitchen to work for the people who will be using it, then we can answer based on that.

This is my suggestion, but depends on how much room there is to open fridge. Definitely close up the door way. The benefits will out way the need to walk a couple of metres. Then that new wall can be full height and depth cabinets or bench and overhead cabinets. Or a combination of the two. Depending on the size and condition of the carcasses of your existing kitchen, it is a good budget choice to just change the doors. But it would more expensive if you needed to get doors made by a kitchen cabinet maker, and not just bought from retail shops already made. So standard size carcasses would be a bonus. Do the measurements and then do the maths of full kitchen replacement. When you say a small budget, is this $5000 or $500?

Can’t find photos of full cabinets with no appliances, but these give you a slight visual. Also, if you want shaker doors, for pantry, you don’t have to spend the money on every other drawer and door being shaker as well, they can just be a smooth profile. Shaker full height to ceiling doors would look good. In 2 pac painted cabinets, not vinyl wrapped.

Many thanks Dreamer, that’s so helpful. Unfortunately I don’t have a sketch or anything, but your photos, particularly the last one (obviously there will be colour differences) have given me confidence that it will look great. I’ve been out choosing everything today (we’re doing a bathroom reno and another bathroom update too).

Dreamer, I’ve decided that having only shaker on the back of the bench (where you have shown stools) will work, and have decided on gloss white for cabinetry and tiles and it will be a while before I choose the stone benchtops but have a better idea of what’s available
