Exposing steel beams downstairs room

I’m going to renovate downstairs and was thinking of exposing the steel beams. They have been boxed in with gyprock.
In line with if you can’t hide it make it a feature. I’m thinking it will make the room and ceiling less bulky and closed in. I don’t know if they glue gyprock to beam or there’s timber batons which would make it smaller once removed.

window height 2100 and ceiling 2400

If I was going to make a feature of the beams I would consider adding another to make it look like it was intentional, depends on spacing.

As already suggested paint brick work white and add lighting

If you look at the current block and the young Architect, she is using beams which might give you some idea

What’s your whole plan for renovating the area? You need to consider the beams in the context of the full room. There would normally be some timber battens used.

We’re having people stay home n December so thought bedroom and lounge sort of area. Deciding on painting brick white.

I mentioned earlier to think about dropping the wall next to the stairs to hip or slightly higher height to allow for the TV, as this would further open up the top floor and perhaps show the street art, ie the framed print. I know that you don't want anything else hanging from the ceiling but because of the ceiling height you will need a reverse hanging fan to bring all the warm air down into the room that will sit up there if you don't. The heater is because you had one shown in your posted floor plan, this is one of the fires available on my 1997 CAD program, that's the colour it comes in but can be changed within the program cheers

Thank you differentways I have been astounded how generous you (and OKL and Kate) have been with your time and energy drawing these things up for a stranger. I am happy with the big bedroom windows and don’t have privacy concerns because the house will be well set back from a very quiet road with very little foot traffic, we will establish greenery, especially up closer to the road, and we will have good window treatments for night and getting changed etc and if someone catches a glimpse into an empty bedroom as they drive by during the day, well that won’t be too exciting for them or me - they won’t glimpse a Monet on the wall that they would be enticed to steal! Might still prefer the laundry under the stairs, but this does show an option. The porch/ entrance area is a generous (maybe too generous, esp with view/ sitting area as well), but could easily be trimmed up to suit. Thanks again for doing some elevations to give a rough idea what it could look like, including providing one in a light palate to compare to the darker palate given earlier.

Thanks oklouise. Agree..downstairs will eventually be for guests.. 2 bedrooms and extra living flowing out to garden . We intend to add 2 story extension..garage underneath, master suite, maybe another bedroom and bathroom/powder room , thinking entry and stairs could be incorporated there also.main views are from east elevation and nice garden views else where. Plenty of room ant the back of the block for extension and garden east elevation is front of the house and west elevation is at the back of the house..but where guests and family arrive. I. The very immediate future we want a great upstairs living/dining and kitchen..downstairs a master bedroom, maybe 2 guest rooms and bathrooms.

Leave the ceiling. Paint the brick white. Get a desperately needed better lighting layout. Make a cohesive plan for layout and furniture ie moodboard. Spend the money you’ve saved on the ceiling on some new furniture. You’ve got good bones to work with.

Yes I have all that furniture on Marketplace. We would be doing all the work ourselves, paint and gyprock etc anyway.

The inspiration rooms you’ve posted appear to have a lot of natural light. Your room doesn’t. I like the look but be aware that a dark beam in a dark room will drag the ceiling down.

Ok thanks for the tip. I just purchased my paint today so will start on the walls in the morning. I will leave the beam enclosed for now, so once the walls are white the beams should blend in too then.

I also had a look under the stairs where the beam continues and then wondered would the top of the beam be the top of the gyprock? If the gyprock hung lower than the top of the beam that would be a hard fix.
