Hi everybody, We are in the process of designing our family home and I wanted opinions on the layout of the kitchen and dining . Please share any thoughts or advice. Thanks :-)
Can you post the whole plan. How many people are you designing for. The dining table is a bit away from the kitchen and in particularly the dishwasher. Think how you will use the spaces. Think about noise between rooms.
Where will food be prepared and cooked? Looks like the cook will be away from all family members and guests when preparing meals. Will the kitchen just be a show kitchen? Are there views from dining and kitchen? Do all occupants need to walk into pantry to get a drink from fridge, or will you have a fridge for fruit, milk, cold beverages in the kitchen?
If your butlers pantry is really your working kitchen why put a double sink in the island when you have space for an additional sink in the back run? I dislike sinks in islands as they are mess magnets but that is only my opinion. . Also the fridge in the BP looks small for a family home -usually a meter space is required. Not having a fridge in the front kitchen might well become impractical and cause congestion in the BP. Just suggestions from someone who has grappled with similar decisions
Without knowing what is to the right of the kitchen and dining area, I would do something like this - making a big family kitchen that would be a pleasure to cook in, with lots of bench space and storage, instead of dividing the space up into a small kitchen and large scullery.
I don't like it, I much prefer Kate's idea, though a butlers pantry might be important to someone for example who entertains a lot and wants somewhere out of sight for the mess. If that were the case though, I doubt the fridge would be best where it's shown. So it's not really apparent what functionality is desired? It's like it's obviously big and grand, but it doesn't make sense?
Is that a chair in the butlers pantry?
How many bedrooms? Bedroom 1 has no ensuite and Bedroom 2 has a walk-in robe, so is Bedroom 2 wrongly labelled, which I've noticed increasingly on real estate websites, random numbering, or is there another master bedroom somewhere? Skylights everywhere, how's that work for your climate?
