Ideas for our bedroom
Comments (10)The look that I think you already have is old Hollywood glam, and it's beautiful! The look is enhanced by the framed black and white print (Audrey Hepburn?). Try a row of smaller prints on the large wall to the right of the bed, in the same theme. Then add a touch of luxury with some lustrous silver / grey drapes. I think that the hanging lamps cast a beautiful soft light that would be lost with the addition of wallpaper. Agree with the suggestion of adding mirrors behind the pedestals to make them visually bigger. Try to find some with bevelled edges for that extra touch of class. I think that the room needs a small touch of soft colour - a pale shade of teal, grape or fuchsia would work. Take your chosen colour a shade darker for an accent wall behind the bed if you're into drama. Add a flowering orchid to each pedestal, a candle or two or maybe some antique silver ware and it's lights, camera, action ......See MoreStyle Showdown: Plywood bedroom vs concrete bedroom
Comments (43)Either material can be made to look and feel beautiful, but the photos show the worst of both. I love baltic birch plywood with exposed edges, but it must be sanded smooth and clear-coated with a satin finish lacquer or urethane. Concrete (my passion and my business) can be tinted to give it a warmer shade, and either cast against a super-smooth surface or polished to make it smooth. Bedroom walls need to look and be touchable. The ones in the photos give me the shivers....See MoreHow can we make our small open plan 2 bedroom beach house bigger?
Comments (27)Hi arcmaz Great house - fantastic 60's modern look - Harry Sidler (Modernist Architect 1923-2006 exponent of the Bauhaus style in Australia, mainly Sydney) would have loved the interpretation, its a good style, don't change it will pay dividends in the long run. It would be good if there was a plan of the house, and a plan of the block this would allow some relatively accurate planning proposals. If you had the real-state plan with the block plan it would help a lot. In terms of making the place bigger and retaining the style I would suggest that the extension (maybe one room and an en suite depending on a budget) be a block in the today's current style, but linked to the existing house via a "link" (Link =small walkway). This would allow you to retain the style, but not be dominated by a past period, I have done this a few times and it has worked fairly well. If you are looking for three bedrooms it might be best to add a master bedroom with a bathroom, and then maybe living areas with back yard access. There may be other approaches depending on the current layout that could be considered, but I would retain as much as the original as possible, and only make small cosmetic changes until you are ready for a worthy development. I hope this is of some help, I would be happy to comment further or work on this project. Comments (9)Great space, Marcie. Certainly, dark colours will help to create a more intimate space. Cool colours work beautifully with white plantation shutters creating a restful space. Looking at the room now, I suggest you need to incorporate some texture. Seagrass wallpaper is a great start. A textured rug between the bed and the large picture window will help make the space more intimate. Add a couple of tub chairs by the window at the edge of the rug, and add cushions and throws that co-ordinate with your final colour choices. You may even wish to add a couple of big leafed indoor plants. Decide on your theme - coastal, tropical, shabby chic, southern belle, contemporary - these all work with plantation shutters - and then add colours, textures, and lighting to suit.
