Need help completing a powder room

We are trying to refresh the powder room. We want a more updated, clean, sophisticated (with a touch of glam) look. This picture was the "before" - we have had the black laquer repainted white and the mirror and sconces removed. Any advice on paint/wallpaper, mirrors, sconces, etc. Any help would be appreciated!

Gold has been back for a couple of years but I have a feeling that this year the gold trend will fizzle, and I see nice shiny chrome coming back. It is very glam and gives the sparkle that would go well with your marble. I would suggest changing out the gold to chrome if possible.

Agreed, the gold fixtures are dating the powder room the most.

@Connie & melbourne_mum, I do feel so much for both of you and I too echo your sentiments Connie. If it were me, I would get this forum dilemma fixed, as I mentioned in my earlier post but as Midesign0401 has already mentioned, a solution is available to put all the problems behind melbourne_mum and that's good really. As for your plumber, Connie, it's not a great start with so much more to do before you get your reno completed, what with the builder, plasterer, painter etc... etc.... I would suggest to ask around the neighbourhood or even further afield, local supermarket or post office and see if others have had recent reno's and if they're happy with their respective tradies, then you could book them following a good report giving you a much better chance to be satisfied and more especially not screwed again!!! It is a shame your original selection is no longer available, but rather than thinking of either your your alternate options as a compromise, perhaps they actually present an opportunity! I think that the basin shape of the Arto gives a cleaner line and think it is a good idea to stay in keeping with other items you have in the house already. As not dimensions are provided it is not clear, but I think yo may have an issue placing a liquid soap dispenser in an easily accessible position on the top of either basin - you may need to consider another dispensing option. Vanities appear to be slim line which leads me to think space is at a premium & that being the case, having 2 doors on the vanity cupboard may be advantageous as they of of course take less room to open either individually or together. If the rumpus is going to be used as a family day care room, then I think the powder room should be accessible from there. This will make it so much easier for one person to supervise the kids in the room as well as the one who is heading off to the toilet. Perhaps you also need a wet area in there for cleaing up after messy activities. I know someone with a similar family day care set up, and they have toilet and laundry attached to the back of the garage/daycare space. And then the kitchen is adjacent, this makes life a lot easier for the sole person in charge of the kids.

Hi Siriuskey, I thought the playroom and study were under the bedroom section only. The plan doesn't show any external stairs up to the porch and front door, so they look like being at ground level. Lumpets would know if my comment has any relevance or not. If this is a real issue I would recommend not having the L return bench in the new kitchen (corner cupboards are always impractical expensive compromises IMHO), and instead use that space for the powder room. then the drain can go through the outside wall to the right without cutting into the slab. If there are no problems running that drain under the floor the other position that you and Dr Retro have suggested would definitely still be better, with the door to the powder room off a more neutral space opposite the internal stairs.

We would mix some silver tones in to counter the gold, and play on the gray in the marble. Don't be afraid to do so! Is the large plate mirror attached to the wall still in tact? If so, simple slim sconces such as this one would streamline with elegance. We might also suggest reducing the right edge of the mirror to contain the mirror glass within the width of the vanity, leaving wall space over the toilet for art. If you do remove the plate mirror, we would recommend a pendant from the ceiling, centered over the sink and a mirror framed in something exotic, like shell. Have you considered a different tone on the ceiling, such as a soft coral or jade? If you want a wallcovering, a grasscloth-look in a silver tone would be a warming, timeless choice, and there are vinyl look-alikes that would perform better in a bathroom. The marble is so commanding, try to keep the rest of the choices less ornamental so they don’t compete too much.
