And now another point of view on radiant floor heating: HATE IT! There was no place to put in baseboard heating in the addition we put on for Mom. Everyone was telling us to use radiant floor heating, it's the best, blah blah blah....HATE IT! It does NOT regulate and since the bathroom is small (the whole place is under 450 square feet) and is mostly covered with a floor mat in front of the sink & by the shower it never gets warm in there! We had to add a base heater into her vanity to keep her & her pipes from freezing. Then in the rest of the space it is either stifling hot or cold because it just doesn't hold a specific temperature. Yes, the floor is toasty but not the rest of the room (& it's only a bathroom & 2 rooms separated by a closet, not even a door. HATE IT. Just my 2 cents.

We replaced a bathroom door with a vintage, louvered door. Stationary louvers, just like window shutters. I had to add foam core covered with fabric over the louvers on 1 side of the door. Just those little, slivers of space kept the bathroom from ever getting warm. Covering the louvered door fixed the problem.

Mariele Storm- thanks for responding. The bathroom is functional and working fine, we built the house in 2001-so 19 years old (where does time go?). We've lived with the cold marble floor for all of these winters so far and put down 5 matching bath mats (which all are machine washable) so I tip toe rug to rug to get across the floor to the WC (the room is 16.5'x10.5'). It's not so much about saving up more money is more a question of is it money well spent and worth it once it's done. I don't want to go through the construction hassle if it's not going to fix the problem.
