Referencing the art deco period in which the apartment was build, a curved range hood finished in linear kit kat Japanese tiles forms the focal point of the kitchen. The master ensuite feels like your own private day spa, featuring custom built in vanities warm timber tones, brass details and stone tops. Stone look tiles ground the space while a penny round mosaic features in the shower area. Subtle curves in the vanities and mirrors create softness in what could be a hard space.

Modern art deco-styled dining room featuring arched windows with black window frames. The room features pops of colour from the jewel-coloured upholstered dining chairs from Gubi. The elliptical-shaped black dining table with bevelled half-moon legs echo the curves of the art deco period and the overhanging black and brass pendant lights are from Gubi. The modest three bedroom brick home will be renovated and a substantial extension added. The footprint of the extension re-aligns to face the beautiful landscape of the western valley and dam. The new living and dining rooms open onto an entertaining terrace. The distinct roof form of valleys and ridges relate in level to the existing roof for continuation of scale. The new roof cantilevers beyond the extension walls creating emphasis and direction towards the natural views.

I worked alongside Base Architecture on this contemporary new home in the Brisbane bayside suburb of Manly for a young family. I assisted with the selection of finishes, colours and materials such as kitchen design, flooring and tiles. I also furnished the home in a contemporary and relaxed style. The clients incorporated some of their mid century modern pieces. The result was a home with casual elegance that is unpretentious, comfortable and inviting.
