Comments (30)georgi02 "follow some simple guidelines, the ones that people frequently aren't told when buying wall gardens and you end up finding out the hard way" Plant walls are fashionable and seem ideal for small spaces but it would be good if the stores that sell the bits and pieces told people it's not just a trendy decor item, it needs some gardening expertise. mutcherson, is there any space between that deck and the fence? IMO the most successful low-maintenance gardening is the right choice of plant growing in the ground. As soon as you start messing around with unusual plants, unusual containers, unusual locations, you start having additional challenges. But I reckon if you want it's worth having another try with a wall using georgi02 's instructions. Succulents are easy to grow from cuttings and forgiving of lack of water. When you take cuttings of succulents you are supposed to put them aside for a while before potting them and I have found pieces I forgot I cut weeks earlier and managed to grow them. I have had some problems with succulents but that was because of frost so you you won't have that challenge....See MoreRetaining Walls, Garden Beds & Water Tanks ALL IN ONE - Brilliant!

Comments (16)The sediment comes from the bottom of your tank. Ideally place the pipe outlet about a foot up the tank to avoid drawing sediment. Tanks should then be cleaned of sediment every 2-3 years. An outlet at the very bottom of your tank is handy for this ... empty tank of water and use a high pressure hose to wash sediment out. Obviously do this when expecting some rain to refill your tank. Or you can hire someone to do this for you. Unfortunately tanks are low maintenance not no maintenance....See MoreGarden help- hide my fence!
Comments (9)In Brisbane too. Murraya is a trooper as a hedge. Keeps its foliage all the way down the plant and doesn’t get leggy if correctly cut. Keep it very slightly wider at the base than the top for best result. Enjoys some regular water for dark green leaves. May have weed potential near bushland. The viburnum is great too but ours have been plagued by wooly aphids or similar in the last couple of years in our garden, after many years of happy growth. It has tall new growth to four metres plus. Some years it has been entirely stripped by possums, but it bounced back. I don’t like the smell of the plant much either, but it is very tough. Larger leaves mean a power hedge clipper chops the leaves about, so you do need to be a bit careful to avoid a messy look. The trachleospermum jasmine is vigorous and needs frequent clipping, great as a hedge or ground cover but also keeps its leaves on its lower levels, so isn’t leggy if there is reasonable light. Long new growth is currently growing about 20 cm a week! Best of luck....See MoreJohn Henson
