Thanks for sharing the pictures. Trust me, I know EXACTLY what it feels like when you mention the stress of doing bathrooms. It is a lot of money and so one wants to get the decisions correct. I think the tones of the bathroom look really nice and because there isn't a lot of light, it looks like you made the right decision in not choosing the darker tile on the back wall. In terms of the floor tiles, I know what you mean about liking the grey, but then I also see a lot of display homes that are doing colours similar to your floors. I like the greyish tones, but then think to myself in 4 years time, am I going to look at grey/concrete coloured tiles and say "yuk, that was the 2016-2018 era. I remember grey tiles had their day also in the late eighties/early nineties. (Gosh, I am remembering now, even the pale grey trousers and apricot or pink shirts the men used to wear then....mmmm). The charcoal colours don't seem to date but then they are very dark in bathrooms that look similar to yours and mine. I hope you had a couple of wines to relax after the bathrooms were completed. :o)

It can either look really dramatic or too dark, depending on the size of the room as well as your other components. I've attached a couple of images of our work using dark tiles, the smaller bathroom we have surrounded the bath with dark tiles but then balance it with an extra large mirror to bounce the light around the room. The larger bathroom we have taken the floor colour way onto the wall but used a different texture on the walls for drama. Hopefully this gives you more of an idea but you shouldn't to nervous of the room being dark, it's where you can create a contrast as well as textures. Look forward to seeing what you go with in the end.

I made the mistake of getting wavy tiles for our ensuite - even though I was going to shop for something else :-) I got caught up in all the options! Being typical glazed tiles, we have never have any issues cleaning them - even with the texture. I just found that the texture dated them very quickly - more so then a similar flat tile.

With most old houses walls and floors are not straight and perfect, however wall tiles can go some way concealing this. I don't know if a reputable tradesperson will fix glass panels to old tiles and be happy to guarantee the job. Seems like an ideal opportunity for mould growth between the old tiles and the new glass if any shower water gets an opportunity to seep around the edges or joints of the glass. I think you may be surprised just how much this type of glass costs to install, and you would probably be better off doing the job properly with new tiles and a proper waterproof membrane as required by the building regulations (which your old shower recess doesn't have). In the future your potential new buyers will probably appreciate a freshly renovated bathroom that conforms with the current building regulations (with standard tiling) rather than a glass panel over mould in a bathromm that doesn't comply with the regulations.
