I put a lot of thought into what kind of sink to install ino my new kitchen: single vs double, stainless steel vs other materials, dish drainer or not, and finally undermount vs top mount. I went safe and chose industrial grade steinless steel, double sink without a drainer but with aditional part with multi purpose. I was very indecisive about the last thing: undermount vs top mount sink and finally decided after reading this - I will go top mount.

I only specify an overmount sink for clients if the benchtop surface warrants one. The last time I did was because the client wanted a timber benchtop. I managed to find a beautiful black quartz composite sink that worked well and looked like a feature in the kitchen because it matched the colour of the cabinets. My usual go to sink is definitely undermount because of its aesthetic and practical advantages. Small chips can always be smoothed out if need be but really, there is no substitute for being careful!

Hi Jay j, I still stand by this so if you are reading reviews with people reporting their own negative experiences (not hear-say), make sure they are also specifying a brand and model to check they are talking about reconstituted stone (granite) sinks and not Acrylic. Knowing the brand they are reviewing you can check from the manufacturer what they are made from as well as check the manufacturers warranty and their own assurances given about performance. When you go through reviews, it is a good idea to make sure that people are actually talking about Granite Sinks, which are made of the same type of material as Reconstituted Stone benchtops are made of, and they are not talking about coloured Solid Surface sinks made from Acrylic which do have these problems listed. Some people confuse the two. Modern Granite Sinks do not tend to have the staining, chipping, and cracking problems that are inherent with Acrylic Sinks. Some people mistakenly think the Acrylic sinks that were popular in the 1980s and 90s, plus still used in today Acrylic Solid Surface benchtops are the same material as today’s Granite sinks; but they are totally different. @wuff, Thank you so much, and congratulation for your renovation, I wish you will enjoy it for so many years to come. Yes, I agree living into a granny flat next to my son was my husband wish before he passed away. It is good to be close to family. Also I love the suburb which I have been lived in for 22 years. My Daughter and her family is living close by too. Most of my close friends are living around and we always gather for a brunch, or lunch or watch movies. The good thing is most of my friends pick me up and don't let me drive most of the time when we go out. Thank you again
