Declaration - I am a rug business owner. The pros for having a rug - subfloor protection, noise suppression and atmosphere outweigh the cons - scratched floors (we all have a friend who comes for dinner and tips on their chair) noise (my kids constantly scrape the chairs) and cold bare atmosphere. Rugs complete rooms. Maybe the issue with young kids who are messy eaters could be the only reason you hold back. The issue relating to timber fading is another matter - timber floors darken with UV exposure, so your rug should always be moved around to make sure the fade lines are not obvious. Even if it just 10cm here and there to mix up the exposed area.

Do you think they match? Coffee table I did my research and found something similar to the noguchi coffee table but in white (thought it'll suit the white ikea table). Dining Chairs I really love the chairs with timber legs but I've decided that since my apartment will be occasionally rented out I'll stick with a more conservative look. Dark Grey frabic will match my sofa. The steel........ It's similar to one of the photos on houzz. Bar Stool: Now that I have chosen a dark grey/steel leg dining chairs and an oak based coffee table, would a standard white barstool with steel leg still work well with everything else or is it starting to clash? I totally agree with the advice above. Just a tip with the accessories - you might be very tempted to get all black & white, or super graphic prints. But, because the brown caesarstone will need balance in the room I'd suggest bringing in neutral earthy greyish colours, a bit of navy, and even a bit of gold. Unless you swap the brown benchtop for something crisp & white or black, or a single colour... then you will have a fantastic & strong themed 'retro look', and your red barstools will work. Good luck with your bar stool selection. I completely agree with your choice to buy from a shop rather than online. I've included a photo of 2 white stools I purchased (if they suit the look you're after). A word of warning - after seeing them in someone's kitchen photo from Houzz, I bought them online. Both stools arrived badly packaged with dents & scratches on the wooden backs & both had faulty gas cylinders so seats wouldn't go up. A refund was granted months later after PayPal investigated but I had to pay to return them (cheapest freight was twice what the stools cost). Now I will always buy from a shop!
