Exterior color scheme for our 1940's weatherboard terracotta tiled roof house in Australia
Comments (17)Is there part of the house we can't see? Where is your front door? Just the double frontage like that is plain, but that was the style and not much you can do about it. The homes you are looking at do have a lot of features with opportunities to bring in other colours but there is nowhere with yours to do that and if you try it usually cheapens it. If you take the triple fronted house you posted, I would do the lighter green on the weatherboard and the deeper green like they have used on the window frames, I would do for the baseboards and the front door. I would keep the window frames and eaves white and paint the guttering to match the roof. Are you country? Are here any water issues for the garden? Instead of trying to do something with the house, I think I would be inclined to give it all a cottagy look with a picket front fence, nice entrance, a lush lawn and lots of plants for colour and lushness. The dark green baseboard will be a nice background for some small shrubs in front of the house. Weatherboards really lend themselves to that look. Don't forget the addition of old tyre swans - lol I notice you have small awnings over the windows - maybe replace them with some striped canvas ones in greens and terracotta - if you can get the combination. Comments (21)We went with Monument and I am delighted. I was worried about it making the house hotter, but not at all as we added some extra insulation while the roof was lifted. We look over our roof to Mt Dandenong and it really feels like we are floating above the rooftops now (previously had a lighter color). I have also noticed there is far less glare being darker. Pic below is not my best shots ... but you get the idea. Forgot to add we also have a flat cliplock roof and used a combination of Monument and Dune on the house....See MoreChoosing colour bond roof colour to blend in with terracotta tile roof
Comments (6)Hi there Mary, that's something I hadn't thought of re painting the ridge tiles, I had thought to replace them with the grey, it would depend on the condition of the ridge do they need re setting, this would be a good time to replace rather than fiddle with painting, Woodland Grey is a classic Colour Bond, Gully a bit lighter. Your Roof is a strong red colour, I would get a sample of both grey colours, if you have a spare red tile take it with you to look at samples good luck...See MoreWhat colour should I paint our house?
Comments (5)I love Surfmist as a colour , but I don't think it plays well with the terracota . like you , I wouldn't keep the buttery yellow , so therefore wouldn't change the roof and paving colours ( no point changing everything ) . I'd go a light sandy tone , sort of a dark beige . There are 100's to choose , I'd let you choose , but personally I'd keep away from the ones that seemed trendy 15 years ago -- basically start your own trend , instead of updating a 40 year old trend with a 15 year old one , or a 5 year old ( light grey ) one . And as dreamer says , crisp whiten up the trim -- 'sand' and the 'orange' , with crisp white will look planned and get noticed in a good way ....See Moresagepassivebuildings
