Can I make this look any better?
Comments (35)Didn't know anyone still did the free making on curtains anymore, but Spotlight do have a lot of sales on ready mades - it is just getting the size. Most of Spotlight's ready mades are thermal backed too, which could be practical for you, they do make a difference keeping the cold out, but I like to have a sheer behind as they do block out light. I liked the idea of a nice rich cream brocade and there is usually quite a bit of choice in that sort of thing. Loved your outlook too, looks lovely and peaceful. I do like colour through my home but not that much and I weave 3 or 4 colours through the house to tie it all together. Maybe Bunnings had a sale of wrongly mixed colours :)) I think you have done a great job downstairs, you have created a simple backdrop to let your furniture and furnishings shine and set the mood. No, I was talking ceramic tiles for the bathroom, I just had my bathrooms done and had the option of laying tiles over the existing tiles to save costs. I would only do it as a temporary solution, if you think you might redo the bathroom totally down the track, but I know others who have done it to save costs and the step hasn't been a bother, I guess it would depend on the tile you chose. I ended up with a bit of a step anyway because the tiles I chose were quite thick. Just trying to think of options for you. There are also outdoor carpets that might work, they used to be quite patterned, but if you like Persian, you might find something along those lines. Trying to think now where I have seen them. I'm wondering if Bunnings might have something....See MoreDecor: adding a touch of masculinity for a bedroom?
Comments (11)I'm not sure if any of the replies are from guys , but allegedly I am one hahaha . Pretty easy really -- pull the duvet back across 3/4 of the bed , with a large hump on a diagonal . Get a couple of wet mismatched towels , and throw them on top of the cover so they can dry out ( saves having to wash them every 2 weeks too ! ) . A couple of large posters of your mans favourite singers/actresses , and one of his favourite car model . Bonus points if the model of car has an actual model draped provocatively across it . In the corner , have a pile of clothes that may need washing in about 3 weeks -- BOTH pairs of jeans , 4 1/2 pairs of socks , all 5 pairs of undies , including the ones that are now lovingly referred to as 'crotchless' , and 7 black T shirts with band names on . In the lounge , a tea towel on the white 'coffee' table will stop the white top getting shoe skid marks on it , and its sad to see only 1 remote there -- you need at least 7 , even if you aren't sure what 5 of them do . . . . . . . . . . Thats a start ....See MoreWhich layout is more balanced?
Comments (11)If I see that in general the advice of the houzz community is to eliminate the murphy bed. I'll find a regular bed, perhaps with reinforced storage to hide weight plates. (or maybe a custom dumbbell rack). And yeah I'm going to apply some touches of orange, (even though my nephew wants a dark man cave look). I already bought some geometric paintings in blue and orange ink....See MoreHelp! My new home has a boring bedroom.. How do I fix it?
Comments (17)Actually, your style isn't really very scandi in my opinion. It's industrial and rustic. I'd match recycled and chunky timbers with the concrete, a timber with rich reds. There is a company near me that makes plywood panels with recycled wood veneer attached. They're too far for you but might give you some ideas for a feature wall. I'd start with a few tins of paint and some colour actually. you'd be surprised what that can do! I'm fixing, well technically my second home but with our first we figured fairly quick it wasn't a forever home and didn't do anything personal with it. So this is our first "home" if not our first house. i getya! I know everyone seems to love white walls, but after years of bland rentals the first thing I wanted to do was paint colours all over the walls! Anything but white! Paint is cheap and a safe place to start testing your design flair. Go and paint a bunch of sample tins onto the walls and don't stress too much about the perfect look. start with what you like and find what suits that. A colour that makes you smile when you see it. I've paid about $10 a sample tin. like others said, don't do anything with the carpets yet, you can throw a rug over it if its too boring and it will look fine. There are so many things that I first thought I needed to completely change, then as I painted and freshened and tidied up I realised were not needed a huge reno. Our house was a bit of a wreck though, not a nice new apartment so things just literally needed cleaning and fixing. Put up some pictures, art, photos you like too. Honestly, I know everyone's being funny about getting a girlfriend and getting her to decorate, but actually I think it's great you've got your own taste and want to decorate. I think anyone you bring home would love seeing more of your personality around the place. Check out some garage sales and buyswap sell and auctions for rustic timber pieces for your home. Maybe a nice pipe and timber bookshelf in the lounge instead of an entertainment unit? https://www.northernriverstimber.com.au/...See MoreUser
