Ensuite shower facing position

So I'm having a little panic whether I should move shower head to be on back vanity wall instead of from the right toilet wall side.
The window on the left wall is clear, not frosted, and I can see trees and sky. I'm going to just have a panel of glass prob 500? 600?mm wide to protect the vanity side and go without a panel on toilet side (or could be added later depending how wet the toilet ends up getting). Have photo of floorplans and the shower head I'm using.
What do you think?

I would be inclined to have a slightly wider glass panel next to vanity. We are bathroom renovating with a relatively open shower too so have been taking note of splash area in other shower especially when hairwashing. Most of the splash seems to occur sideways so your current shower head orientation is probably OK assuming good drainage to keep water away from toilet. We are going to put in a 900-1100mm panel parallel to shower head but our overhead outlet comes out to 450mm and kids will potentially be using hand-held (messy!)

I agree with scottevie to have a much wider glass panel next to the vanity and also a panel protecting the toilet. Over the years i have used various styles of showers that have one or two panels or no panels. Unfortunately there is always the mop up afterwards so to reduce the water splashes, it would be more cost effective to get it right in the first place.

I think you can definitely do this, provided you can move your door which you said you can. I have an ensuite at the side of my main bedroom - it's small but perfectly adequate. I measured it and including all external walls the ensuite takes up 1.4 x 3.05m space (my bedroom including the ensuite is 4.7m long so shorter than yours.). My room is wider (3.9m) so I can have a wardrobe along the wall where your door is and the bed on the opposite wall. But for you, I'd keep your bed where it is and look at putting your bed in a 'wardrobe wall'. you have the depth (1000mm) before the window starts and I think 3.3 m is wide enough ... ~800mm robe either side of bed. See pics below for what I mean. Only you will know if this is too squeezy but an ensuite can make so much difference to your lifestyle, I think it could be worth it!

Thanks once again oklouise for your comments. I have already been told by the draughtsman that I cannot put in skylights. No idea if this is true but he seemed quite sure and it was he who 'designed' the layout of said ensuite with what I consider a too small window because of ease of plumbing and drainage. He says that can be changed...............Supposedly only put like that to get the oversize plan in fir consent. This department is only interested in the outside view and the effect on the neighbours, which I actually dont have any. The positioning of the ensuite and WiR has changed too from the first plan as I had to come 'out' of my bedroom into a corridor past the WiR door and then into the ensuite. Technically they were both in my bedroom as had not entered the hallway but did not seem like it. So the wall you have now suggested for the door is a small lobby to the bedroom and I had planned to put furniture on it and a full length mirror. I will now look again at the whole space with three zones to see what can be done. I used the word solar tube as I thought that was the generic name for the 'tube' installed which reflected light into a room. Do they cause draughts? Have had no experience of them but will probably want to install one in my scullery (or Butler's kitchen) but am going to work in it a few months before deciding that. I am really quite a novice about function of installations and of building code.

Philip it is hard to tell the difference between the two tiles, but the top one looks better due to more subtle pattern. If you darkened an IKEA timber vanity, how did you do it?

Thank you so much for your comments and great ideas kiwimills , Pleased to Bijou Design , Leeder Interiors and oklouise . I agree with the door at the end of the bed being a better and more convenient position. Originally I had not included it there to access some of the light from the other window (obscure glass slider), and to avoid the feng shui coffin position with feet facing the door. On further reading I might be able to remedy it with a tall solid bed-end and blanket box/bench. I can see how walking through the WIR each time would be a pain. An alternate ensuite plan (below) as also suggested by Leeder Interiors. I wasn't sure if I had enough room for this... it would get me a larger vanity 1200+ rather than 900. Not sure however what: the recommended distances from the vanity front and toilet should be ? minimum width i need to have for the toilet space (between the wall and slider opening) ? If not, the extra bench space over the cistern also sounds like a good idea. Thank you

If you want to keep the glass panel you could hang a shower curtain from the wall side.

If you could move the toilet out of that corner, I think you could have a single-panel of glass/ open shower. You really need a pretty massive shower to pull off that look. My parents have done it successfully- but it would be 2.5m long and takes up the entire wall. Getting the fall of the floor tiles right is essential.

We did a similar renovation to our bathroom with an open shower however our wall was 1780mm long and there was no toilet at the end. The splash from the shower can reach all the way down to the end so I would be inclined to close up your shower unless you want a wet toilet. Also our panel of glass is 1180mm long with a 600mm opening to the shower. I don't think a 500 or 600mm panel would be sufficient.

Looking at your pic Scottevie, maybe corner shower not so bad. I noticed the panel next to vanity is quite small because the door compensates. If I had just wide panels on each side they are probably more in the way, encroaching further into room than corner shower would be.

I think you can definitely still achieve a fresh modern look that is also practical and doesn't need endless clean-up duty. A fully enclosed shower is generally warmer too. We are only going with a more open design to suit a bath/shower wet area set up.

This is what we did with the main bathroom. It works well.

I put all wet areas at end so you don't walk through water to get to frequent use vanity and toilet. Happy for bath to get wet, and I use the handheld to swish bath regularly from towel fluff etc.

Shower is 1380 x 850. First tile on outside of grate gets some small spray, but mainly a footstep of water from reaching towel. The glass panel doesn't really get wet.

I think definitely go with the corner enclosed shower. Your room is too small to allow for unprotected shower spray. I can think of nothing worse than having to dry the drips off my backside after sitting on a splashed toilet seat. I looked at different configurations in the room but the way you have it is as good as any. Just close off that shower! Good luck!

Kerri,

If you have the shower head on the back wall and the glass panel beside the vanity and then also around the corner running the other way for say 800mm, you will effectivey confine the water to that area and the toilet shoud remain dry whilst still having plenty of room to enter and exit.

So back to the actual showerhead position. I feel like it should go in vanity wall because that's where you are looking when you enter but is it worth moving the plumbing from the toilet side wall for?

Kerri,

Have a sit and a think about it but it MUST suit you.

I would do exactly what you have done with the drawing that you supplied with this diemma and draw a few options and see which one you think you like the most and if it means moving the plumbing then so be it.

I'm curently building and up to plaster stage and I have still made a change and put in a few more power points whilst I still can, just go with the best option.

Moving plumbing is not a prohibitive cost specially in the design stage where you don't have tiles already on.
