Hi Max You will be pleased to hear that terracotta is making a comeback! It always works well with warm whites, like Resene Quarter Spanish White. Consider installing one feature wall in the room in recycled slatted timber that has a similar tone to the floors, in order to tie the space together, and bring a more modern feel. We're renovating a beautiful old homestead on our farm and I need some exterior colour advice! We've built a new section on and have reroofed the entire house. It was impossible to match the lovely red/brown bricks used on the original part of the house so we have decided to render the new section (as well as another part of the house that was added on some years ago). Roof, bullnose verandah and gutters are Zincalume. Fascia / windows / french doors are all Colorbond Surfmist. We're replacing all of the verandah posts with new timber posts, and the front and back entrance doors will be a matching timber. Now I need help choosing a render colour!! We'll be building a garage near the house and thought we'd try to pick a Colorbond render colour so that we can tie the garage in with the house - perhaps Wallaby or Jasper?? I'm concern they'll be too dark though. Someone suggested that we do a half tint for the render and then the full tint for the garage... thoughts anyone?? All suggestions or advice most welcome!! I'm with oklouise -- do both doors in timber . It won't be too much , but heres what I would do to guarantee that -- the pillar I would do in a lighter coloured stacked stone -- a schist or similar . real or manufactured , but not too 'planned' or even . That brings in the timber and stone and the natural elements , but importantly it has the 2 tones and adds interest . The rest -- It is a bit dependent on roof colour , buts here's a basic idea . Go quite light colour on the main render -- maybe a light surfmist or similar . Then what is mid-grey on the illustrations , go a mid steely blue grey ; that dark panel go a lighter charcoal , unless your roof is a lighter charcoal -- in that case , I'd go a darker charcoal for the contrast .
