Need help choosing a render colour!

We're renovating a beautiful old homestead on our farm and I need some exterior colour advice!

We've built a new section on and have reroofed the entire house. It was impossible to match the lovely red/brown bricks used on the original part of the house so we have decided to render the new section (as well as another part of the house that was added on some years ago).

Roof, bullnose verandah and gutters are Zincalume. Fascia / windows / french doors are all Colorbond Surfmist. We're replacing all of the verandah posts with new timber posts, and the front and back entrance doors will be a matching timber. Now I need help choosing a render colour!!

We'll be building a garage near the house and thought we'd try to pick a Colorbond render colour so that we can tie the garage in with the house - perhaps Wallaby or Jasper?? I'm concern they'll be too dark though. Someone suggested that we do a half tint for the render and then the full tint for the garage... thoughts anyone?? All suggestions or advice most welcome!! I had my house rendered last year. To decide on colour, I first drove around looking at rendered houses, to get a feel for the colours & tones I preferred. Then I used the "Paint Your House" program on the Dulux website. You can either look at their various "stock" houses, or upload a photo of your OWN house. Then, using their colour selector & painting program, you virtually "paint" your house, so you can see what it will look like when done. Once I'd narrowed it down to a couple of colours, I got sample pots in full-tint, half-tint, and quarter-tint. Painted sheets of papers with them, and stuck to outside house, so I could see what the wall colour would look like during various times of day / sun vs shade /etc. It was a bit stressful worrying how it would look when finished (since I went a deep ocher gold), but I'm thrilled with the result.

Go grey as advised above, don't paint window frames if they are metal but leave alone, plant sasanqua camelias along the side boundaries (they can be hedged) to screen out neighbours & add greenery plus colour, landscape the front. Don't do white stones as they look dirty after a while and are blinding in the sun. I'd get rid of the stones altogether. If you are a gardener, put in box hedging and some standard roses (yes, I know done to death but they are charming), or draw up something on paper first - play with shapes. A garden makes a house look good.

Great advice above from MB. Vivid white is extremely bright outside, I can't suggest enough to use a tinted white. You will need sunglasses otherwise! Surfmist works pretty well with most colours but can throw a slight green. Dulux Natural White will be good, but very bright. If you can choose something other than Colorbond colours here's a few. Just make sure the paint dept confirms the tint is for exterior use (can be a problem for exterior paint tint, even if it's an exterior paint). Dulux colours: Todd River - newer one, I haven't seen it large scale. Doesn't throw green. Simone Weil - throws a slight blue, but quite a neutral grey. Tristan - brown based grey It would look amazing if you could clad the LHS grey section (with the two windows in it) in a horizontal timber cladding to match your door. Probably not an option though!
