What do other Houzzers think of my lounge room colour scheme?
Comments (82)Ok, don't like the dark cushion, don't like the TV in the bedroom. You could go for pendant lighting using the same 'material' as the mirror? If you went for larger beside lamps while you have that mirror there, they would be fighting each other. In the programs I watch, they say to have 'a hero in the room'. In this case the mirror is the hero I think. Also the extra throw cushion for the bed could match one on the chair, so it ties in (or don't have one at all on the bed). If you did need a TV what about having one installed on the wall to the right of the chair,(looking at the photo) and make sure it can swivel out, so when you aren't watching TV in bed it can be against the wall, out of the way. Then you can have a lovely (glass) ornament or two, or a bunch of flowers sitting on it along with your photos. I love how you have your bed dressed, spot on! (without the dark cushion) I absolutely adore the blue shades in the duvet cover and I would draw those out into the room. Love that you have opened up your windows in the lounge. Maybe a throw rug and some colourful (same colours as in the duvet cover on your bed) cushions on the lounge suite as nothing is really popping! There doesn't seem to be any colour except for the flowers and the photos. Colourful paintings on the wall would be lovely too. Maybe the potted plants could be in coloured (as in your duvet cover) pots instead of white. I know you weren't asking about the lounge and if you are happy with it, then that is all that matters. Well done....See MoreYour favourite linen colours for your bedroom?
Comments (15)Unfortunately susan_ 66 there is colour is psychologically and historically related either way, and dark blues re more often not considered masculine when building an interior. I worked in a design centre where much time was spent picking apart colour association, and used it to help market the products in imagery. There are feminine blues ofcourse, but my comment specifically mentioned indigo and low chroma colours, which are toned. With black and greys, and I used the phrase 'added masculinity' referring to the boldness and strength of colour they bring to soft and delicate colours of blush and peach. Just from that you can see how colour is associated, bold and strength= male, and soft and delicate = female. it is what it is. In my example, ie an interior, I meant it to be masculine. Baby blue I wouldn't have thought was masculine, but is a gender specific typically only when there are two options. Pink or blue!...See MoreColour scheme for living room
Comments (14)Teal works really well with dark chocolate brown and beige (greeny blue teals with deep brown leather sofas or tables and caramel walls pop and yet are homely and comfortable) so a rug underneath the table and sofa to delineate that space with teal in it or all teal (I would go for a pattern as you have very neutral pieces the one from Kathy above with caramel and beige is perfect I think) could work -ditto curtains and cushions. Given the neutral pieces you could add pops of another colour depending on the teal tones you use. Also lighter turquoise tones that sort of layer with teal - its deeper cousin.... a turquoise ceramic (or other objects) with a toning teal one ( teal and turquoise can vary on the blue-green spectrum) and a lovely caramel coloured piece ( things work well together in 3's I find) all of varying heights shapes and some texture on at least 1 - would look great somewhere. Burnt orange (a more subtle tone than hot orange) can be a great and more adventurous addition as can khaki - just keep them subtle and mix it up. I have a great market bought cushion made from an old woollen tartan type blanket of aqua /turquoise, a light khaki and burnt orange with a caramel leather cross on it that looks so good on my dark brown leather sofa (sorry no photo on me)....See MoreExterior colour scheme Would like other professionals opinions please
Comments (6)Thanks for your insight, yes I'd looked at Surfmist as well, clients seem quite pro grey so trying to subtly work their likes into the scheme as well, as I think they woule like a grey house however I think the monochrome black / white is classic and will endure the test of time longer than some shades of grey, also if they were opting for white windows may be more inclined to look at grey for the house colour however feel that the black windows will work nicer with the lexicon and tie in the black elements.
