Finishing off the mirror bedroom — Side Tables & Lamps?
Comments (23)A guest bedroom should be inviting and relaxing but walking into a room with dbl. lge mirrors and seeing yourself twice on every occasion is not my idea of inviting. The chest is nice, how does that tone with the bedset? Could that be put on the wall opposite the curtains, add new crystal knobs and put a tiny chair offside with it and a small picture above with timber frame. How about a quilted beadhead in med. weight fabric to match the colour in the quilt (not navy) and do you need tables each side of bed? Don't know room size. Don't change things except for some plain cushions, some to match a small lamp. And please, no silver paint! :-( a quilted bedhead in...See MoreNeed help designing my bedroom
Comments (4)Hi Lachie - I assume you have a built-in wardrobe on the wall where the door is? (where the photos were taken from?). I'd suggest combining some of the elements of the suggestions above, but orientate the bed so that it's facing the door when you walk in, then put your desk under the other window. You can then put the bookshelf on the other side of the desk, which might leave you enough room for a beanbag/comfy chair in the corner for reading? Otherwise, you can put the bookshelf under the floating shelf (not ideal I know). I'd leave the bookshelf upright so that it's taking up less floor space, and get yourself a beside table (preferably one with a drawer and a shelf below for extra storage). A rug would be great for pulling the space together, but you might run into some issues with your desk chair getting caught on it, so you'll need to think about that. But if you do get a rug, I'd try to match it to one of the blues in your bedspread. Maybe also think about getting a new lamp - something in pink to pick that up from the bedspread (and maybe wood instead of metal to bring some texture into the space). As jmm1837 says, some more art on the walls would be good and will help pull the colours together. I see you have a plant there already, what sort is it? Maybe put it in a small wooden or mint green pot and if you get a wide bedside table you could put it on there (which would put it in optimal light under the window). If you want something bigger which is pretty indestructible, you could try a dracaena, next to your desk would make a nice feature. You might want to think about painting the floating shelf too in white? Few other ideas: cushions for your bed; a throw rug; a vignette of glass/vessels for the floating shelf; if you have space (hard to tell) a chest at the end of your bed (as long as that doesn't mean you walk into it coming through the door) for additional storage/seating; and think about a few plants, not just one if you can. In general I'd try to bring some wood elements into the room to make it a bit more homey. Have attached a couple of quick layout possibilities for fun :). Would love to see what you end up doing!...See MoreCan you help this bedroom? Lamps especially
Comments (24)How exciting for you to have such a clean clear slate to work with. Your room a somewhat like mine in a house we have just renovated and I had some great advice from our project manager/designer. We also have a huge window with an amazing outlook, one we didn't want to hide but needed covering at night. She helped us choose full sized curtains in a sheer texture that softened the room but even when the curtains are closed, still allow the outside view and colours to show. They stack back to either side of the window. Of course the roller blind is ideal for privacy and it is so well hidden when retracted. When your curtains are open it looks like you have the beautiful piece of art with that view. When our curtains are open we have a lake and huge jacaranda outside so I placed a piece of Indigenous art on the opposite wall which bought in colour, particularly the mauve of the jacaranda, to the room. Not sure what your fourth wall is like but would there be room to put your existing green based art on that wall, to reflect the outside green. The chair in the room is probably a little large but there is no sense putting it in the other corner unless your are ready to drag it across the room when you want to watch tv (when everyone else is watching something on the other tv). What about moving your plant into the corner beside the tv on a raised stand. With a smaller chair and the plant moved then two large freestanding lamps would look great. Can't wait to see your new artwork and where your room goes from here. I hope my photos help with my explanation, note the jacaranda was at the end of its flowering. We have since finished the room and introduced a little more colour....See MoreHow can I make my tiny master bedroom work?
Comments (11)I'd break it up by doing a feature wall behind the headboard , as siriuskey says , but I wouldn't go dark . Without knowing your tastes , how about wallpaper with oversized green and yellow leafy plants -- bright and cheerful and modern . If your style is more traditional , maybe burgundy with gold scrolls , or burnt orange and cream vertical stripes , or pink Playboy bunny ears ( see , I might know your taste haha ) . And to double down , add a large abstract painting in different but complimentary colours , trowelled on in places or effect . Then a plain but complimentary duvet ( dooner ) cover . The focus will be on the walls , not the space ....See MoreRachel Lim
