I have a whole wall that I need to block off with some sort of door. I'm thinking that a bi-fold door would be awesome. However, my husband kind of wants a sliding door. I just think how cool it'd be to have a whole wall made up of a door that could easily be tucked away when needed. This would make outdoor barbecues a lot easier. A sliding door is just a big window, and if correctly built in (check if the glass is the correct sized for the door if a bit old) with the correct sized lintels this should not be a big problem as the loads would be transferred to the sides, allowing the door to slide easily. Silicon spray (being a Yachtie were we use this stuff everywhere), we now use silicone spray on all our windows in our 1930 home and the windows glide across with one finger before they used to tilt when trying to open them. I would place the door head up to line up with the others and one thing you might consider is placing a window seat, (rebate the bottom channels into the window seat) and have the window seat in and out, place a cushion over the entire seat, should be fantastic and if the deck is built, than no balustrade is required. If it is a stacker slider, i would do the seat for the entire length. So instead of looking a bit funny they will think it was supposed to be like that. Our bedrooms are so tiny that I fitted mirrors on the wardrobe doors to give the illusion of space. It has made a huge difference, especially as the usual method, of putting the mirror inside the doors, was unworkable because of lack of space. In the guest room too it improves the light. The doors are not sliding, though I did consider it. But they can only slide in twos in the guest room, while hinged doors give you the full width to get at. I agree that somehow sliding wardrobe doors always seem to cover something you want to get at. Also here they need to be lockable, and that's not easy to do with sliding. So they are hinged. This is not a house for wheelchairs, the configuration is too limited and it would be a major job even to get a bathroom wheelchair accessible. The tiny bathrooms don't have enough wall space to allow for wider doors, even if I wanted it. Fortunately being tiny they are just fine for seniors needing some support: I am about to install shower grabs but everywhere else there is something to hold onto. No room for a sliding door there either. The guest room door and the kitchen door are sliding, again because the house is tiny and hinged doors get in the way. Only the master bedroom has a hinged door, but it goes back against the wall...there is a 6" deep space between it and the wall, and I filled it with a floor to ceiling rack of cds. The door hides it, for the most part. The guest room door slides behind a chair, the kitchen door alongside the fridge. I'm not a fan of feng shui. But if a client insists then I try to make designs feng shui compliant. Or vastu compliant - this is the Indian version of feng shui. However I do put a small mirror on any wall enclosing a void, like a lift shaft, because a friend insisted. It's no big deal and it makes her happy.

I love all this feed back - thank you ladies & gents :) I do think the light and flow would probably work better like oklouise's first post - I concede you are both right. My concern was the depth of the shower - we have a very pokey one at the moment but think I see how to rectify that - tell me what you think? Also I want LOTS of storage and think keeping the storage in the activity with the entrance now up the other end would limit the furniture layouts so I would probably keep that in the entrance hall and still use the nook as is - no doubt they will sit there to do their makeup as the light will be amazing BUT i can imagine the mess will not - haha! I LOVE those doors siriuskey- so grand and impressive but my husband is a lay in bed TV watcher so that would possibly take up too much wall space for his liking - again I giggle ( you have to right?)
