Front ENTRY door advice - Which one out of these 3 ?
Comments (53)Yeah...ended up going with door number 1 :) Glass is covered up still with green tape cause the painters r painting walls atm, so this is it so far...........See MoreNeed 2 decide this week out of these 2 designs? PLEASE HELP ME OUT!!
Comments (46)Nice result and a very hard choice between the 2! For those who are interested, you do need to have a handrail that runs the whole length of the flight. We have vertical brushed aluminium rods on the steps that start from the 5th tread (to keep a sense of openness) but needed a wall rail as well. We chose the rod option over glass for something different and with far less maintenance. I think it all comes down to individual taste and what's important to you in terms of overall design...See MoreWanting some Reference to modern facade that has 2nd story setback
Comments (10)thanks, I do appreciate that & yes I'll think about doing that ;) I think it's important to understand that "help" in with this stuff involves critique to a certain extent. I'm all for helping people, that's kind of inherently what my job is all about, but in order to do that in the best way possible we need to be appropriately positioned to do it, and give it the time/attention it deserves and we're not going to tell you the answer for nothing. You can't easily sort this stuff out via a forum. You're building a house that's going to cost you hundreds of thousands so I beg to differ, you can afford to get the design right, perhaps not a full blown architect service, but I'd argue it's false economy cutting corners at the design stage. Investment in design is money well spent. What Retro and I are saying, and clearly you are seeing it too here because you're still struggling with it all, is that design is a 3 dimensional process. Form follows function and the facade will reflect the plan solution. When you get to this point and the facade's not working, then the plan's not working either. You need to be working with someone with the capacity to understand the consequences of the floor plan spatially. But in your case what I'd argue is that if this is a serious priority for you the designer needs to understand this aspect back while they're planning the layout, NOT tweaking it afterwards. Building design is a skill that is incredibly underestimated in it's complexity. Ultimately until we understand exactly what your comprehensive brief requirements are we are limited in capacity to either critique or suggest a better option. Hence my suggestion that you best engage a competent designer who delivers the contemporary style that appeals and is integrated rather than applied to the floor plan. honestly that's the best advice I can give you here - I'll be in touch :) PD...See MoreAdvice needed on entrance design!
Comments (12)I assume it is sitting on piles/stumps ( in NZ we can them piles ) -- like bigreader , I would do the decking all along that front , even if it was narrower , and take it around the corner ( I think that is what you are heading towards on one of your options , but I'd have it more uniform , with 90 degree corners rather than different angles and widths . Then I'd have the smaller entrance door flush -- in time , you could add a small clear roof over it , or a pergola full width of the house end , or 1.5 metres square -- basically , whatever suits your needs and style . You never know , in 5 years you might want to do stone columns or leave it as it is , and again like bigreader and dreamer say , it may hardly ever get used or it may need traffic lights it gets that much traffic haha . The other option ( and I'll expand on that in a sec ) would be to make the decision that you won't use it as a door , and put a window there -- that will allow you to put furniture or even your TV in that area . You can still have the deck around there , or you may just put a step or two at the end of the 'front' main terrace , and make that the main walking way . And the thing I'm getting to in a sec -- the windows on at least 2 of the bedrooms , and the hall sort of by default , don't seem big enough -- just a gut feeling that they'll be dark on an overcast day ....See MoreItalian Girl
