I’d be careful using other wood pieces (like the coffee table and the one in the corner) which don’t match the floor tiles. Too much contrast. More white furniture (like white dining chairs or a white side buffet) should be added to help balance out / soften the dark floor. Avoid any large black pieces though. A cement top coffee table would look nice colour/texture wise, and would offset the dining table nicely. More texture and colour can be added through cushions, throws, table runner, and rugs. Teal is my favourite so I’m definitely biased, but it goes well with natural elements like what you have. See if you can find a large picture for the wall with a dark wood frame which matches (as much as possible) the floor tiles. The picture itself should include some teal colour. That will really start bringing the whole room together.

Awesome. Thanks guys. Yep - in QLD and is a very breezy home so I’m not too worried about air flow. If I get smaller furniture it would be so I could easily clean underneath and retrieve lost LEGO;) I fear that I’ve already got TV too high but if I move it I will definitely go lower - have a sore neck. And although is living room it is mostly used for TV. Kids have toy room for playing and many of our conversations happen on our dining table or outside areas. So comfort is a large consideration. Hey annb, Siri and bigreader - thank you so much all of you, for taking the time to explain your personal stories to me... I loved reading your replies. Have given me much to think about :) I love the idea of a couple of shelves with photos... one or two select albums around our coffee table and a family wall collection I think - a real talking feature. Any other spaces will have some nice artwork I think? Storytelling through photos and beautiful artwork on our walls - I hope - we can find a nice balance. Now.... the task of working out which specific photos to put where lol! I don't want it to look cluttered.... so it may take some playing with configurations on the floor - to work out which layout will look the best :)
