Master bedroom at rear?
Comments (12)Consider a cavity slider. That way you don't loose precious space in the bedroom, or kitchen, because of the rotating space for opening the door(whichever way you choose to have it open). It is also much easier to slide closed and even if a little ajar, gives very limited views into your bedroom. We access our bedroom through the pantry. Most people don't think we have a 4th room, or a master, even though they can see it across the deck from the lounge. They see the pantry wall and think thats it. It has given us extra insulation from people making breakfast or being in the the open plan area beyond. It is an unusual entrance, but we designed it like this to get around the noise factor that drove us nuts in our last house. We can have a sleep in now and never notice breakfast noise from the other household members....See MoreAccess to garage/laundry through master bedroom?
Comments (6)Yes, especially if it is a family home it would put people off. I think in this case it would be perceived not as "quirky" which has the connotation of being cute, but just weird and poorly resolved. A good design also considers the relationship between rooms, spaces and functions, so the laundry off the master bedroom is just a big "NO" in my books. My teenage kids are encouraged to do there own clothes washing, and one always leaves his clothes washing to the last moment so the laundry gets used at odd hours. I can't imagine him coming through my bedroom to wash his clothes at 10pm (or 10am on a weekend)! How many ways can I say "no", it is a really bad idea? It would be worth your while to engage a professional designer before you spend a stack of money to help you resolve these planning issues as a professional can often recognise solutions that you hadn't even considered. Nothing worse than rushing into a renovation without proper design consideration, then realizing after it is built, and a whole lot of money has been spent that in fact the basic concept was a bad idea. It is surprising how often I see this on my house calls. Best of luck, Dr Retro of Dr Retro House Calls...See MoreHelp on converting 2 bedrooms into 1 master bedroom with nice ensuite
Comments (5)my suggestion has an ens and wiw and uses the old bedroom door for a linen cupboard, although the toilet could be placed at either end to be closer to the original sewerage, this arrangement allows for more privacy for the toilet, more standing room near the shower, wall space for a towel rail and room in teh wiw for a chest of drawers..the vanity is over 2m long with cabinet under the (one or twin) sinks and open shelves next to the toilet for towels .. and, while you're adding the new ens, it would be worthwhile to plan the new access to the kitchen and new laundry...See MoreMaster Bedroom, Ensuite and Laundry Layout
Comments (7)there are some inconsistencies with dimensions that need to be checked to be certain of sizes but, instead of having to sacrifice something else to find space for a new laundry and also having to rearrange the old laundry to create an ens, my suggestion includes a new ens, master bedroom with biw and keeps the existing laundry and toilet with some modest changes to the kitchen ..you will need a window in the old external laundry door and the ens could be installed without a full width wall and door to avoid having to change the old bedroom window but an enclosed shower stall and efficient exhaust fan will avoid too much steam in the bedroom and free standing flat pac storage could be used to replace the lost hall storage...See MoreC P
