Oh C'mon V Richards...every epoch has its treasures. B4 you make a mad run for it stop a while and consider the period and the reasons for the style...it can be extremely enlightening....unless its not the period you want to escape from but from some of the opinions. I spent many years of my youth outside of Australia living surrounded by old ruins in Europe. I forgot what it was like here. When finally I returned to Australia and found myself living in some of the 60s and 70s places..I found much to admire and wonder about. I may not have fallen in love with much of it but there was a certain mistique and a feel that I can still conjure when talking about certain places. Not saying that it was all romantic and pleasant but it conveyed something of the era and the kind of Aussie from those days.

@Aimee, I know this dilemma was never about your layout and only about the "style" but sometimes it's easy for us readers to digress a little but it does help the author, you, to have a good look or a good think about it, leave no stone unturned so to speak!! This kitchen whatever the layout, only needs to suit you as the cook in the home. My kitchen is being designed exactly the same way, for me and not hubby or anyone else in the family as I'm the resident cook too. If for example, I placed the microwave in the usual spot above the oven, now seen in almost all modern kitchens, then only hubby could use it, as I'm terribly height challenged ha-ha.....but I'm having a wall cabinet placed far lower down on the wall, thus suiting both of us!! Again I'm not having any overheads, well a few slimline cupboards but they are like half the height of a standard overhead, so I can still reach the shelf but I'm not having any normal overheads, as they would be useless to me and I'm building for me not for anyone else, so if a future buyer wants overheads, nothing will prevent them from doing so. I see you have no overheads in your pics either, perhaps height challenged like me?? Currently, we're living in a tiny home (7sqrs) whilst building our dream home, my fridge isn't even in the kitchen, I have to take about 5 steps and travel through the lounge and into a back room to access it and I have lived with it for several years now and it's no bother at all but I must admit, it will be nice when it's back in the kitchen where it belongs, it's simply too big for this little home. Hi Houzzing community, I am having trouble with colour choices for the fascade design. The house is south facing, front is 6m from front boundary, single garage where second car will park on the driveway. Roof tiles: I want to go for light-coloured roof tiles such as the Monier concrete salt spray (mainly for thermal efficiency). Most designs have dark roof tiles and it's not common to see homes with light-colour roofing. My initial gut feeling was to go all light coloured exterior...but would this look to clinical? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Belinda, Here are some important things to consider. Moisture is your greatest enemy when it comes to cleaning terrazzo. The material is very porous, easily stained, and can easily be etched by acids. We recommend an alkaline cleaner and degreaser for best results. Upon sealing, the floors should only be cleaned with a neutral pH cleaner; all-purpose cleaners that contain crystallizing salts, alkali, or acids should be avoided, as well as those cleaners that are water soluble. If you are considering cleaning the tiles with a gerni ensure that the grout and divider strips are in good condition. You should not use sweeping compounds that contain oil as these will penetrate your terrazzo floors and permanently discolor it. In our humble opinion terrazzo floors are very nice to look at and can be easy to maintain as long as it is properly grouted and sealed. This said, terrazzo is quite easy to tile over.
