do you want a single open plan area or rooms that can be closed off for separate activities, do you want to keep all the original windows and external doors or can these be changed, where is north and do you already have or want to plan for an outdoor area and what are the measurement of the rooms

subject to correct measurements and without moving any windows my suggestion includes a new position for cavity slider from entry to family rooms, sliding door to outside, enlarged kitchen with new cabinets, re-using the existing stove and dishdrawer (the dotted line shows the position of the old kitchen wall

trying to work with existing doors/window plumbing etc saves a lot of cost. just adding the style of sliding doors at can come together to open or close of a room Cheers

some great idea's already suggested. What ever you do you have to get rid of the wall between the kitchen and current dining space and I would make this entire area, one big floating bench with seating / stools you could even continue to shape to form a corner so you had additional storage underneath but open up the space so the view through is not blocked. I was also looking at the family room and living rooms, I would swap them over and some how make the entry front door more of a directional space but still allow it to be it's own space so you can store shoes, coats bags etc, without walking straight in to the living room(s). What ever you do, remember it is cheaper not to move plumbing and I think the kitchen is in a good space.

This layout will leave your plumbing where it currently is, thus reducing costs. Tall cabinets-fridge & freezer recess plus full height pantries-along one wall. x1 bank of x2 pot drawers alongside the free standing oven, x2 banks of x3 drawers to the LHS of the sink, add a dishwasher recess to the RHS of the sink. The lounge and family rooms can be switched depending on your preference. Add sliding doors in-between both rooms to allow for privacy if needed. Delete one front entrance door and create a double entry door for street appeal and practicality.
