90cm cooktop with 60cm oven - thoughts?
Comments (15)We have a 90cm gas cooktop and a 60cm electric double wall oven (the upper one being standard size while the lower one is two-thirds of a full oven). We have two deep drawers under the cooktop in which we store all our pots and pans. But our beach house has a 90cm Ilve upright stove - gas cooktop and a single 90cm oven. So having both versions, while I love the Ilve for its quality, I have to say I find the separate cooktop and wall oven works better for me. No bending over to glance in the oven or to take hot pans out. If you have the space, I'd seriously suggest you look at wall ovens. Here in Melbourne, Camberwell Electrics will let you try out their appliances by cooking a meal. (A friend was looking at a new oven and they let her cook identical meals in both a steam oven and a standard convection oven so she could compare the two. It certainly won them her business and solved her dilemma too.) Maybe a store near you will let you try out the different ovens for yourself?...See MoreAnyone used a convection microwave oven? Does it work well?
Comments (10)this is my present kitchen with stacked built in microwave above wall oven...perfect height for me to be able to look inside both ovens and also safely lift plates and baking dishes in and out onto the counter without bending my old knees...i based the height of installation on my line of sight (in my average shoes!!) being about mid height on the microwave (a little higher than the bottom of the wall cabinets at standard 150cm above the floor) so, check the sizes of your proposed ovens and specifically ask your cabinet maker to install them to suit the cook (my cook top is also off centred to create more space for using the mixer and food processor and the counters are 5cms deeper than standard so you should consult the cabinet maker and you can have the kitchen that suits you best)...See MoreWhat height should stacked wall ovens be?
Comments (6)You should also take into account your own height. If you are shorter than average consider having it lower. The most used oven should be the easiest to access. Think about the height you can comfortably and safely lift a heavy roast, which should be the height of the mid-shelf of your higher oven. Never have it too high so that you can't lift out heavy oven trays in a safe and controlled manner. Comments (7)I want to do the same to free up a ‘stretch’ of bench space, rather than having only small work areas in the corner and ends of our small L shape. I am talking stove top only as oven will be in a tower with microwave. That means the cupboard underneath can utilise the whole space, albeit with relatively small door (430mm). We would have to offset the range hood on the adjacent wall due to window position but have been advised the modern hoods are powerful enough to extract steam without necessarily being positioned absolutely over the hot plates....See Moreracytl
