Help to design/build a kids study room / retreat for 4 kids !!
Comments (3)Hi Cindy, I would suggest to really describe what your kids needs are - are they in primary school, high school or university? From there, you can work out their IT requirements and styling. Also, as bigreader has suggested, outline the area you are working with to help decide what you can fit in the space. In general, I would suggest to make it inviting space (maybe with bean bags). Something they can enjoy and feel like is there own space. Styling and colours should reflect what they like (again, all these things are age dependant). Below are a few of my own examples. The top one is a study nook adjacent to a retreat area (an open are with a TV) used by the entire family. The last photo is integrated into a teenagers bedroom. Good luck!...See MoreDesign ideas for study room
Comments (10)Get a cabinet maker to custom build a work station across the entire width of that blank wall. As it is on full show I would recommend incorporating mainly cupboards and drawers so you can hide stuff away. Consider using a coloured polyurethane and nice stone bench top and cabinetry hardware, as it will be the first thing guests see when entering your home. Comments (12)You definitely need oriental rug under the bed, make sure it’s at least 0.60 cm bigger then your bed all around, but bigger is better. Original rugs are quite expensive but machine made ones are affordable, good ones are Belgian made and Turkish. Don’t buy online go to the shop and check quality. On the windows you could raise the curtain rod as far as possible get new shear curtain and velvet or other heavy fabric drapes in the same or deeper red that you have on the bed. Replace lamps with sconces from the same period mainly because bedside tables are small, or get different style in Persian blue ceramics ....See MoreHow to incorporate a gas fireplace into a very long room
Comments (9)I think one of your key considerations will be what to do with the flue / chimney. My personal thought is that you should look to punch it through the wall and keep clean lines inside, but not sure if that is feasible for you. Otherwise you might want to make a feature out of the chimney enclosure - use it to break up the length of the room. The path you choose here will inform the remaining design decisions. You have to keep in mind that an off-the-shelf fireplace unit is not going to have heaps of flexibility in terms of altering its design to suit your space. If the unit you are looking at is designed with a vertical flue and you want to punch through the wall instead, you are going to need specialist advice to make sure that the gas certification for the fireplace unit is not compromised by your alterations - or chose a different unit that suits your needs....See MoreMukta Jain
