You have made some good improvements thus far. I agree - you need to add some colour. Firstly a rusty orange or mustard cushion onto your green chair. Definitely not white. Choose a throw the same colour for the couch. I would look at patterned cushions for the couch - There are some cool bringing in all the new colours. I am wondering how a muted cobalt blue would look as an accent with the rust and olive and mustard. I would consider a rug change if you need to once you have finished. I would look for a recycled piece you can up cycle in a bold colour to go on the wall with the word art. [ not sure it really works go for print of some type or a mirror ] This could provide some storage with drawers etc. If you want to keep the cane - paint it in a colour possibly the same colour as a new piece for the end wall. You could use this wall as a painted or papered feature wall. I would look at reframing your pictures in white - different sizes and textures. I agree about the tv cabinet- take your time to find what you like to upgrade.. It looks like there might be a lot of dead space between the living and dining - it may not be possible but if you could move it all a meter or so towards the dining room may balance things a bit. All the best it's amazing how each little change adds up to a completely new look.

Thanks siriuskey for your suggestions. I don't really know what style my taste/style of house is really. I like the simplicity of mid century furniture and have a mid century Parker sideboard. Other than that, the house is a bit of a blank canvas at the moment. (the kitchen is fairly modern though with almost white glass splash back, white cupboards, and stone bench tops that are in a colour like Caesarstone Osprey (but are essastone). I do like things from the late 1950's/1960's.....and I like Audrey Hepburn. I also like the Parisian type black n white art from that era. (but I also like naive art - big colour artworks of people or animals that look like they have almost been painted by a child). If I had the money I would buy a high ceiling mid-century home like they have in USA (a modern yet mid-century Brady Bunch style home). My house is a 1962 chamfer board on concrete posts and batterns around the bottom and currently just has satin polished mixed hardwood timber floors throughout. Most of the walls are either natural white as in the study or snowy mountain quarter strength (and in smallest bedroom - half strength russian toffee). Because I am always scared that things will date if they follow trends too much, I always seem to do fairly conservative or timeless things in house renovations and rely on the furniture and accessories to add colour and style. (I like the idea of renovations and the ripping out of old stuff to create something new, but I really don't like have to make all the creative decisions etc along the way)......so I do appreciate it when I get advice from others. I have printed your suggestions and will have a look at them. (I guess the barn door look is actually similar in concept to some of the timber veneer sliding doors seen in midcentury homes). Ok so after all the feedback I made some changes. After looking at it, I would like to make entry point from garage on the garage wall, so you still enter into pantry, but you dont have to walk through pantry to gain access to the house. I would also like to flip bathroom and bed 3 so bathroom is centred between rooms. Also not convinced I should have entry to lounge from kitchen, should I have kept it entering from the entry. My only issues now is, do you notice how the bathroom steps in? This is because the ensuite is a bit bigger. Will it look ok once built or do I take that 30cm from my ensuite/main room to level it up? If so do I take 15cm from ensuite and 15cm from main bedroom? Also I really wanted the compartment bathroom that oklouise suggested. But its not big enough. Any ideas? My current bathroom is 3100 x 2600.

Dr Retro's analogy with a convertible are so true. We elected to wait 12months in our recent house purchase before embarking on major renovations. The magnificent view that we thought we needed to have stacker/bifold doors for turned out to be too breezy to have the doors open for more than a few days a year. So the extra wide mullions associated with this kind of door would be impacting the view for 99% of the time. In the end we went for extra wide sliding doors (3 for a 4.6m width) with the narrowest mullions we could find. As for your quandary re the corner post, how about a very small section solid stainless steel post? Along the lines of Miles van der Roh's Barcelona Pavilion?
