Kitchen Design, Plan Advice Please
Comments (10)Thank you to you all for your comments and feedback :-) Oklouise - i agree, not much benchspace which i didnt like. I really, really want a big pantry as ive lived with a bottom corner cabinet as my pantry for the last 7 years and its been painful! Thanks for taking the time to rework the plan. Siriuskey - thanks for the compliments! The 3ds are just done in the free version of sketchup, but my partner is a professional draftsman so he has some expertise! The cooktop is just 600 wide. We love the french doors, and know they are probably not the most practical but i think they will give the place the real beach house feel we want. Dr Retro - thank you for your constructive criticism. We have totally reworked the layout, your comments were very practical :-) We do currently just have a single bowl sink in there, unfortunately without putting the sink out on the island i think thats all we can fit. I am trying to squeeze a lot in there.. Currently live with a single bowl and find it ok and also getting a dishwasher so i think ill survive. See below for new ideas roughly planned last night.....Definitely more conventional. Again, any comments appreciated...The dishwasher is between sink/cooktop and there are drawers/cupboards in the inside of the island/peninsula......See MoreDilema with direction - Reno just kitchen or rework full floor plan
Comments (12)Thanks siriuskey and dr retro! These are great ideas too. Hmm, I like the idea of fully relocating the laundry and wc to the old little meals room, and the floor plan for that looks good siriuskey. If I leave the kitchen where it is, it makes sense for using the pantry where it is. But the dining room is then pretty far from the kitchen and we end up with an extra sitting area (a third one as the sun room isn’t needed as a study as we have a little study under the stairs of the kitchen).... hmmm I’m leaning towards a really long kitchen on the far wall or the existing dining room and laundry (if the wall between can be removed, which may not be possible), and then wrapping the bench in an l shape at the deck/laundry end (with a little coffee nook seating area), and using the existing kitchen as the dining room, the old meals area near the bedroom as the laundry/wc... leaves the only problem being no real walk in pantry close to the kitchen. Like the idea of the servers, think that could work if I wrap around the bench along the laundry/deck side maybe....See MoreOpening up the kitchen - please comment on the design
Comments (10)oklouise and dreamer, thank you so much for your input! Sorry I disappeared for a while, the weekend was a little crazy, also a lot to process after your suggestions. oklouise, your idea to turn the island 90 degrees is genius! I was obviously mentally stuck on the existing wall and could only imagine the island going along (instead of) it, not across it. I can see the beauty of the suggestion to use that whole "left" wall for the kitchen. I have even walked the rooms imagining how it could work. However after much thinking and discussions with my husband, we prefer to have the living/TV area in that corner rather than in the open area as suggested. Again, I see how this suggestion will work beautifully for many families but not for us. Also, the window in the living area (on the left wall) is 190cm wide and floor to ceiling, and looks into a park. It's the top floor and no neighbours on that side, the view is lovely and we would really like to keep it unobstructed. dreamer, thank you for the idea of a portable island. However, I am very keen on having a second sink and there seems to be no other place for it (provided I'm sticking with what ). Also I thought I'd have a couple of power points there to be able to use my appliances, also it'll be around 2m long, so probably either way too big to be portable. For now I've used oklouise's fantastic suggestion and rotated the island, and made it smaller, now it perfectly aligns with the window on the left and the door at the bottom of the plan. It now looks like there is quite enough space to have a proper dining table to the right of the kitchen. What do you think? I'm providing the current floor plan with the dimensions, the grey area is the existing kitchen/dining footprint. This plan is accurate (done by an experienced person) but my design is probably off as I'm not experienced at all, was just playing with some ideas and a design tool....See MoreDesign Dilema...ensuite bathrooms
Comments (32)Oklouise and Siriuskey and others thanks so much for input. I’ve attached the version we think works best, but would like to configure the other space as a semi ensuite with hall access also, maybe we need to include the corner storage space as I have shown to make it work. Siriuskey, I have taken your advice and removed internal angle walls for fireplace,tv and butlers pantry and have realigned the other small wall as mentioned. We will reconsider when we are at built stage, how to define the spaces...I am liking the idea of cured walls to soften the other angles. Just wondering if I could stretch the friendship and have one of you re draw the small bath room into that space as shown I would be very grateful....See MoreR Degabriele
