How do we arrange our lounge room?!
Comments (7)Depending upon the proportions of the furniture, you could put a small study desk in the corner with the shared kitchen wall. Or you may like to use that space for a bookshelf or a console table/credenza if you don't have room for one in the entry. If the TV is on the large, blank wall, then you could have two 2.5-3 seater sofas facing opposite one another with a coffee table in-between, but only if you're happy watching TV on an angle (or snuggling into the corner of the sofas). Kind of similar to these: Otherwise a modular sofa facing the TV may be better, although buying the right size will be important as you don't want to "block" traffic between the entry and dining room. Maybe something similar to this: You may also want to consider leaving enough room to place a trunk or small console table along the back of the sofa so that guests don't walk straight into/immediately view the back of the sofa when they enter the room. If the bay window doesn't have a built-in window seat, then that may be a good space for a small occasional chair and side table for reading or relaxing. Unless you really have absolutely no furniture, I would just move in. Once you've had an opportunity to get a sense of the space and how you move between the rooms, then I would consider going shopping for new furniture....See MoreWhat should we do with this room?
Comments (24)Target has some nice (cat safe) cane look chairs at the moment at very reasonable prices. I’d pop two in the space to create a natter nook. Apart from art be careful not to chose too many small accessories first. I know it’s tempting because they cost less but unless you have a definitive plan I.e a hanging chair for the future layout, you need to get the big stuff first because the look can evolve....See MoreKitchen refresh: Should we paint our cabinets?
Comments (15)Hi, firstly congratulations on the new purchase. If you are on a tight budget then painting is certainly an option... you can do this yourself if you are feeling particularly DIY inclined or you can also have the doors and panels painted professionally in a polyurethane finish. Dulux does a great range of renovation paints that people tend to get some good results with. If you go the poly route bare in mind there will still be a significant investment required. Green cabinetry with timber accents would look great. Either a darker shade or you could look at sage perhaps, which is very popular at the moment. You could add some open shelving on the wall where the hanging scales are currently positioned. White is also an option as its timeless but everyone has a white kitchen. If you're going to renovate and this is your home for the foreseeable future dare to be bold and add some colour in your life :) Timber benchtops would be lovely but they are very expensive, especially at the moment. You could however add a timber top on the island as a butchers block type feature and update the back bench with either an engineered stone or a laminate. You could add in some brass or black handles and depending on how far you want to go update your tapware to match to finish the look. Good luck with the renovation!...See MoreWhat cushions should we get for our living room
Comments (10)Hi there, your room looks lovely and has quite a formal feel. I think a rust or pinky/terracotta in solid colours square 50 x 50 cm (ish) would work in both couch and chairs and tie the scheme together. Velvet or linen would be beautiful and you could keep these as your neutrals. You could then add a rectangular one or two with a grey/rust or teal/rust print, or with one of these colours as piping. These can be swapped out later for a change eg a yellow based print would work against sofa and chairs. Using down fill will always make them look nicer than poly fill. Cushions can be expensive, If you see some you in the neutral colours that you love it is worth spending the money because you will have them for years - some of mine are ten years old. Most places will let you take them home and return them so you can try them out. I then go to fabric stores and look for prints I love and have the accent pieces made up by a local dressmaker for a fraction of the price and something unique to our home. I have mainly velvets and knits for winter then swap them out for linens and cottons for summer. Good luck I am sure your new cushions will add to your already beautiful room....See MoreJoanne Owens
