Yes, DH is set on the glass splash back so its just a matter to trying a colour that will work.

Tan and white look great with grey. what about a mid grey splashback or grey and white tiles?

Grab a few sample tiles tat are glass look and see how they fell in the space. I’d like a green hue

If the samples are the squares sitting behind cooktop, then I am drawn to the sample on the far right.
And yes to the floating shelf/shelves, if you are a tidy person, it will take your eye away from the very large air conditioner.
And what does DH mean?

Thanks Dreamer for your advice. Sadly we are stuck with the air con for the moment and I thought a shelf would add balance (yes we are both v tidy) . DH (dear husband) really wants a dark glass splashback but I think it could overwhelm the space.

Hi, I would go with a white glass splash back, then you can accessorise with colour and change those colours anytime you like, keeping it looking beautiful and pristine at all times. Shelves under the a/c would look great with some gorgeous accessories.

Thanks Julie and other contributors. We are able to have the splashbacks colour matched to the dulux paint range. Our walls will be dulux natural white. Would splashback same colour be too much?? Definitely going for float g shelf now.

I would go for a warm grey - the right hand sample would look great, it picks up the grey tinge from the flooring and brings it all together. It's down to personal taste but I think too much white would be too sterile and laboratory looking.

Glass splashbacks are always a bit tricky and expensive to install as they have to be toughened safety glass and manufactured to the perfect size, including cutouts for powerpoints and any wall mounted taps. There is no trimming a bit off a glass splashback to squeeze it in after it has been manufactured. A large-format 600 x 600mm polished porcelain tile provides more range and options.

If you are going to go with a glass splashback I would not have it painted to match the wall colour as you will be disappointed. The colour and reflectivity of the glass affects your perception of the colour so it always reads as slightly off when adjacent to a painted plasterboard wall of the same colour, which is usually a much flatter finish, like a satin.

I would be looking at a range of soft, grey tones that complement your benchtop but are much lighter. You may also want to consider your kitchen light fittings - the current ones look very glary and poorly planned. Also consider the bulbs that are used in the light fittings - are they warm white or cool white bulbs, as they also affect your perception.

Also, there are some new porcelain materials available, such as large porcelain slabs that will work as a single sheet for your splashback and what you see is what you get, without trying to guess how a paint colour will look through the glass.

Is there a reason your husband is so set on glass? Just that the glass splashback has really dated in the last 5 years.

I respectfully disagree CP that glass splashbacks have dated in the last 5 years. Like any product that is chosen, it depends on the style choice and how it is used. In our new kitchen and laundry with similar organic colours and clean lines, we chose a glass splasback but had the underside textured horizontally to add subtle interest. In the cellar we used a smoky bronze mirrored finish (other colours were available). Unfortunately, I am unable to provide a suitable photo of both due to the reflection of light but both add subtle interest and do not dominate either room. I agree with your decision for a floating shelf. In our previous home, we used glass tiles as our splash back which looked really lovely. However, the grout behind the cooktop took a bit more effort to keep clean. Hope this helps a little.

There are already 3 different elements in that space white and grey cabinets, stone benchtops and timber flooring. I would keep it simple and use more of the benchtop material for the splashbacks

Agree that glass is bit dated. Given that you don’t have a gas cooktop you may be able to use more of the benchtop material which is a great integrated look.

Hi, I'm interested to find out please what colour of splash back you decided to go with and if you kept with the glass splash back?? I ask because I'm having the same problem picking a colour to match the same 'fossil' bench top.

Hi there we went with a glass splashback in Haynes Minimalist #1. I can DM photo if you like? Learning for me is that the colour sample tile does not take into account a finished room, flooring, lighting, natural light etc. as glass is so reflective. I found it very difficult to find a glass colour that suited both the stone and cabinet. Cheers

This is currently my kitchen with the fossil stone bench. It's so hard choosing the splashback. I was looking at glass too, but have flipped to tiles but felling very unsure.

Your floors are almost like ours? Are your top cabinets grey? Initially I was guided to white subway tiles But went with glass.

All our cabinets are white top and bottom.

Yes, I'm looking at the subway tiles now in a ash latte gloss.

Same glass (see corner join) but depending on the light in the room colour is very different.
