Hi Maria, I see what you mean as I too had blackbutt floors laid and was surprised to see mostly red and not the lighter blackbutt that I was expecting and I have grey floor tiles that butt up to the floor as shown here in these two photos. The difference being that they are two separate zones and yours is one zone. I would suggest a lighter grey on the walls and perhaps a mirror above the basin that has the same wood tone above. Everything then should compliment each other.

Are you sanding the furniture back to raw? if so feastwaston do lots of staining. you can get them in the paint section of bunnings. Just paint and wipe off is the key and do a small section at the time. Don't do it in a hot place just make sure you do bit by bit and it will come out like a pro did it! I really like the ceiling, as others said it gives it atmosphere and frames the view. When you say pine, I'm thinking you mean the finest of all the pines - Oregon which is fine grained and a warm honey colour. I have a cathedral ceiling and I would gladly swap my bland white faux Hamptons look with you any day! I would look at a large rug for the floor - if the budget is small, find a carpet that you like and get it edged as a rug - my favourite hack. I agree to bring in some black in the curtain rods and swap out al that cream/yellow paint for a neutral white. Your kitchen reminds me of mine circa 1998. Change the splash back to something neutral. Even white painted glass or a white textured or interestingly shaped tile. Swap out your bar stools for timber and introduce some timber elements in the kitchen to match the roof. Think chopping boards,, timber bowl for fruit, utensil holders, pot plants. Paint the walls white as well. All the creams in the world won't help the ceiling look better. you need to work with it not against it. Good luck and keep us up to date!

Have you got a picture to post? I think what Dr Retro says is interesting, we have a mid 70s home that we've just purchased with all the timber around the the windows and I was thinking of getting rid of it ie painting it out, but it could just be the stain colour that is putting me off, if yours is similar it could be that just sanding it back to it's natural timber and then clear coating that so there's no stain is actually quite beautiful. Brown aluminium windows though, same dilemma here, and there aint no way IMO of making those suckers beautiful. lol I watched a bunnings video recently on painting them, so I'm thinking maybe of giving that a go. We had to replace all the doors in windows in our last place and it was so expensive so hoping to avoid it in this one given they are all in pretty good nic.
