Living Room Home Decorating Furniture

help me informalise my sofa!

I like the curves and the “lightness” of being off the floor. Not so keen on the fact it screams “don’t sit on me!” ... how can I make it more cosy/welcoming? Thank you in advance!

Add some of your personality. It looks a bit like a showroom trying to please everyone but not personal. Some colour and home touches needed

Colourful cushions. Probably a bit smaller and maybe slightly less cushions. A couple of throws draped across the arms and a bit of seat or back. Another pop or two of the same colours on the coffee table. Maybe a small table at one end of sofa.

I would suggest playing around with your zones, move them without hesitation then sit in each space and rule them out or in as you go. Fresh eyes and all that. I would move your dining to your current lounge, the lounge int that alcove where your study is, you window is higher in here and will accommodate that smart fabric sofa with the tv cabinet on the opposite wall, the armchair will fill the corner really well with a smart floor lamp to accentuate the window and views by night, it will easily become a cool place to retreat. Lounges are also nicer when they have some sense of detachment from the busy work zones ie kitchens and hallways. Your study can be modernized and positioned where your current dining table is, because it's small, and would be an afterthought as you walk right past it from the corridor entering this space. Think stunning bookshelves. Some retro looks have floor to ceiling open backed shelves that could create a hall divider when coming in, so the kitchen is a little more separated, but also, the wall could have some smart practical joinery built here. I would put a desk along the short wall with a designer chair, maybe an upholstered one, a featherston or eames. This creative space could really sharpen the overall look in here, there are some amazing looking workspaces to be inspired by, and the new lounge would feel a real getaway tucked into your corner. You simply go there to relax and Wong have people walking through or past you anymore. The dining room will be where it naturally floes towards, although I love your furniture, id consider some eames or tolix replica chairs with this table as well.

I was searching for a matching chair to use in my living room and I found your page displaying the same sofa that I have! I purchased this early last year and it stayed wrapped up for months until my construction was done. I really like how you're already tying in the neutrals together. This sofa is so versatile, I have already done an updated xmas scheme and I am about to change around it for spring. So I would say if you must tie in together more than use a solid pillow or two, and or solid throw in either color.

Hi Renee, I like the space and your furniture. Grey monochromes are very soothing, but need some colour for contrast. Some greenery would provide the life to make it all work. Your main problem is access, and the way the furniture is arranged it makes a small space even smaller by creating a skinny passage to the balcony, basically dead space. Here is my suggestion for a more open furniture arrangement. This provides room for a round dining table without eliminating the buffet. I would suggest a round glass coffee table so your beautiful rug remains the defining point of the lounge area. I would keep the TV on the low unit so it won't block too much of the light. That is also a better viewing height when sitting down. A big leaf pot plant alongside would complete that end and tie it all together. You might think about getting rid of the 3 silver sculptures (hear no evil, see no evil...). Purely decorative objects can easily make a small space seem cluttered, and they steal useful unloading surfaces.

Hi siriuskey. Not sure how to place the furniture yet. Still trying to work it out.. I am selling my dining table and chairs. My new chairs just arrived today. Gorgeous room, I would swap some of your cushions and bring in some texture and different shapes to add a bit more of a casual look, add some fabulous art on your wall, this could be one large piece or a collection of prints, keeping them in same sort of frames gives a stylish look, really doesn’t need much, love the rug.

Thanks so much everyone! Sounds like I need to find some art and pull colours from it for the cushions etc. I feel encouraged! Hopefully when it’s done I can repost a

I agree about the neutrals - maybe with some tan cushions like that picture of Julie's. I'm also thinking round coffee table(s) might look great on your rug....

Thank you differentways and JE C! Regarding neutrals, I thought I’d post this other angle. There’s plenty of green in the background so I could reference the plant colours in the cushions and leave the wall art neutral ...

Gorgeous outlook, I would bring a bit more greenery into your room with beautiful planters, would still keep your soft furnishings and artwork neutral so as not to detract from your lovely rug, look for a fabulous lamp to complete the picture.
