Please help with daughters bedroom

So. We have PCI on the 27th and my adult son has just decided he's moving with us and our three daughters because his housing option has fallen through.
Changing the plan is not an option- I'll have to put the 13yo in the activity room temporarily, the other two girls in BR3 and BR4, and my son in BR2.
Sharing a room isn't an option either as we have been promising the girls their own rooms, and planning their individual designs for over a year
I've looked into privacy screens, but I'm sure my cats will knock it over and I feel they'll just claw up curtains if I hang one.
Do you have any suggestions what I can do? I'm open to a more permanent feature if it serves dual purpose for now and later.
The activity room was meant to be fore their tv and a small lounge, so once he moves out that will become the feature of that room and she will move into BR2
Please help as I'm all out of ideas. Our ceilings are 2.7m. She has a single bed, bedside table and a chest of drawers. Our theme, if it helps, is industrial/contemporary/geek with black and walnut featured throughout

I’d be proceeding with your plans and putting the three girls in their designated permanent rooms with their decor and your adult son into the study or home theatre. Thirteen is such a delicate age and while kids are resilient- privacy and a sense of home is incredibly important for that age. The activity room loses a good chunk as a walkway and then to lose some further space for a divider makes the room even smaller. The grown up child/son will cope better with temp and odd arrangements and for him the inconvenience is only temporary. Using a sofa bed for your son will allow you to still use those rooms and may assist in him not becoming too comfortable.

Why is the 13 yr old sacrificing her room cos her brother couldn't get it together?
He can go in activity, and he has three months to find something more permanent.
He was never moving with you, she was always coming, make him sleep there.
Get a sofa bed, maybe put a Japanese screen permanently there which can slide back most of the way for when they want it open..or closed for him at night. Or use study for him..activity as a study for now.

But def let the girls have their own rooms.
She will always remember!!

A couple of things from me. Firstly, the cornice painted a yellow makes the ceilings feel lower than necessary, paint them out white or as per tour ceiling rather than accentuate the highest perimeter moulding, you don't want yo draw attention to the highest detail not being high! Secondly, to make the room feel fully addressed the window has to be looked at in context of your room. The house style is important, but more so the room space and light. As you have a verandah you probably have in direct sunlight, but the room is not large, so i would try to make the window feel part of the bigger picture rather than contrast with it. Which is what the red does, effectively looks like a red rectangle dominating a small wall. Do the opposite, taking colour cues from the room will make it feel unified, therefore bigger. The caramel carpet, for me is where I would draw upwards from. I suggest a rattan roman blind, the texture and stiffness will resolve that terrible sag, let in diffused light and provide a natural element needed in country style schemes. It allows the scenery to stand out, and colour is easily built upon it. If you need further blackout, you can install a uv cheap roller blind within the window frame, which would be hidden from view by the roman blind, so it can remain up most times and the roman can frame the beautiful view, allow light and then use the roller as your night privacy blackout blind. Most Romans look best as a frame treatment, they dress the window better than they function on them. Shutters would also be stunning with their play and filtering of light, but costly. And just a tip, your bed would feel far more luxurious in that space if it were not heavy in colour, the metal and timber, both which are not genuine as in fake cast iron and artificially stained orange pine date your space, that is not a dig, just an observation. You could do an upholstered bedhead for a luxurious look that a linen would tie in with the soft furnishings, you can address colour in many ways, but the blinds, carpet and bedhead should be neutral unless you can afford to upgrade often?.. A layering of texture and tones rather than colour is far softer in a country space, that's why it's done often, creamy whites on a caramel carpet will really brighten and freshen that space, , timber lamp bases, fabric shades, plush pillows and personality pieces, you'll have a space you can't wait to get to. Why not use some of her art work on the walls, in different size and style frames (natural, black, white & silver) - you can pick up some cheap frames in the op shop and the bargain stores - just buy some spray paint, and have fun - let your artist help....... you can even photograph some of her art work and have it blown up to poster size - the brighter the better. I'd suggest painting the walls white, with maybe a feature wall a timber bed head - one with a book shelf would be great - a double of course - the room is big enough. A rug to anchor the bed and some funky cushions. An Eames DSW white retro chair and a small white desk with some floating white shelves for odds and ends.... I'd probably get a white roller blind for the window, and paint the door, wardrobe doors and skirtings white, and a lovely large retro style light fitting in the middle of the room, or a hanging pendant next to the bed. A small bedside table - try Ikea - they have a great range, and not too expensive, you may even be able to get a great bedhead there - she sounds a very practical girl, so no frills. You want a young, fresh, modern look. Place the artwork randomly, in groups, on the walls - hang paper cut outs on the walls with blue tack, to see the effect, before you put up the art - Your artist could help with that too. Hello friends, I agree she's too little for bunks. I am also not amoured with making a bed half-way up a wall. There are some nice examples out there (particularly like example three, thank you for that) but what I don't want is something that is a few centimetres too small for the space. Our home is an uber modern renovation and I'm keen to make sure that whatever we do compliments this which is why I'm thinking I need to get something custom built for the space. Problem is there's heaps of candy out there but who in Sydney can help me out? Looking for a couple of designers to spit-ball concepts and a couple of crafts-folks to show us how they'd do it. How about doing the reverse for master: black Shaker cabinet (possibly floating) with a white stone benchtop? It would also be helpful to see size of master bathroom, ie sketch or plans. You could use style of handles similar to your kitchen, but in a satin chrome or nickel (since matt black wouldn't stand out so well on black cabinet). Have you thought about a basin? Couldn't be recessed, partly recessed or above bench. Will you have downlights w/pendant light or one or the other? Would be most helpful to see a pic of your kitchen too, since you want a similar flow and style, and that will help others help you.

My 13yo is the one who suggested it, and wanted it this way, I can't put my son in any other room as his girlfriend is moving too, and they need their privacy just as much as anyone else.

The study is already allocated 🙂

Our family doesn't have an issue with the new arrangement, I just need ideas on how to screen/wall up the activity room 🙂

Ooh I really like the look of those!

It's ok I wasn't offended 🙂 I just felt I should've added more info for context that's all 😂

We have shared custody of all three girls, as we are shift workers and so are the ex's, so I guess the situation of a divided off room is a little easier to work with for six/twelve months.

I was thinking of looking into those diagonal vertical slats, and then adding a hidden curtain rail in the room side she can open and close but for the life of me have no idea what they're called? Or how much they'll cost? And then possibly removing the curtain altogether when she goes into BR2

I wish the rental market wasn't so bad here in SA, poor kid can't get one because he has no rental history, there's over 40 applicants for each house according to the real estate agent, and most of them are filtered as high risk with their online application system.

If your daughter is happy then that is what counts. I would purchase two flatpak wardrobes and face them into the room thus creating a corridor. Paint the back to match your walls. Arrange them so there is a middle door way which could be a curtain and brace the top of the wardrobes to the wall. It will require a minor patching job when done but it will give the girl storage and hanging space. Bonus of being cheap and DIY.
